Anyone ever hear anything about using timed out Hughs 500 /OH-6 rotorblades on a gyroplane? Would this be a good idea? I looked it up and they are a NACA 0012 airfoil, from an aircraft that has a max gross of 2700 lbs.

Check out my post under "helicopter rotor blades for gyros?" it is in the Theory of Flight (Aerodynamics) section of this forum.

Helo blades can be used (though I have only ever heard of 269 blades being used) but for sure you would need to be certain about the integrity of your hub. Some folks might have drawings you could get hold of.

Bottom line: If you really KNOW what you are doing and if your motivation for doing this is experimentation and the furtherment of your aerodynamic knowledge, well, go ahead.

But if your prime motivation is to try and save a few bucks over just buying a nice set of tried and true, well proven blades off any one of several reputable suppliers, then you might be better off to earn a bit more at the day job and go that way.

Take Care.
