Did you really buy one of those Russ? they are pretty cool, just alittle pricey last time I priced one. I think they use a Briggs and Stratton V twin lawnmower engine. That is a good engine, I ran a lawnmower for several years with that engine. Only problem it ever had was a bad head gasket. It was designed by Mitsubishi and built by Briggs.

That's pretty neat, Russ. What does it have for a transmission and how does it perform?

Shar's daughter ,Tristen, wanted a pic of her on my Harley, on her birthday cake for this Saturday's skating party. I will post pic of cake when it is done.

After shooting the pics, I "accidentally" took her for her first ride. Now she's hooked. I think I'll be taking her to school on it as soon as this new batch of snow dissapears!
Chuck Irby
03-18-2004, 02:48 AM
That's a nice looking scooter Chris. You need to remember not to take Tristen up in the air with you or she'll really get hooked.

Judging from the smile on that kids face, I have a feeling she'll be filling the second seat quite a bit on his new machine.

Boy Russ, you pretty much set the standard at kissing up to the wife for gyro time. Good thing mine doesn't read the forum. ;)

The motor is built by ridley, They have the engine case made by a outside vender but assemble the motor in house. The inside of the motor looks pretty darn tough. She has the 44 CI motor and it flys!! Not quite as fast as my 96 CI harley but she is not drag racing the low rider bike. The end point is she is happy and I am happy she is off the back of mine and I get to spend time with Shelia (her name for the gyro)

You need to check the drain plug in that pooch in the picture.
It looks as if he's leaking a little oil. ::)

Just kidding ..... my wife is an ex-flight attendent ... so she can't complain about my flying! and she grew up poor, so what we have now is like heaven to her! ::)

Ray,
That's my pooch with the oil leak. It's not coming from the Harley it's coming from the Turbo Sub wagon that needs a head gasket.

Yeah Russ,
What are you trying to do? Now Shar wants one!
Pretty nice looking bike! How about some more pics?
But she said she will be happy as soon as the 2 place is test flown and doesn't have to be the ground crew anymore.

Sorry guys, But I like to ride on the bike by my self and this is what it took to get her off and I have spent the last 5 months doing nothing but working on the gyro. 8) Now how do i come up with the money to pay for it and go to BD's Russ
Russell

Here is mine.
GyroRon
03-18-2004, 08:32 PM
Russ that sure looks like a Briggs engine. They might put bored out jugs on it and special insides but that is a Briggs and Stratton Vanguard engine case and also looks like the same heads and valve covers.
Last time I saw one of those was a daytonia bike week 2 or 3 years ago. They were smaller back then, a lot smaller than a Harley. But back then they weren't all that cheap they were all priced WELL over 10 grand. This one in the pics looks bigger and nicer overall than the ones I have seen. I would like more info on them Do they have a web site?
ToddP
03-18-2004, 08:36 PM
Ron,
I did a search and found their website. Looks like a great bike for a woman, small stature and automatic transmission.

I gotta admit , I like the bike, but why not a Sporster instead? Price? Unique? Handleability?.......Just wondering.
Russell
03-19-2004, 02:49 AM
I had a 1200 Sporster custom for the wife. She just did not like the shifting thing. The "automatic" in this bike works really good. Also anywhere you go there are lots of Harleys around this bike is very original and she really likes that. Prices are on the web site. I have a lot of extras on the bike but got it cheaper as it was a Bike week special price from the manufacturer. At 410 lbs and sitting very low 24 inch seat height. (the wife's has been lowered from that) it is very easy to handle. They are not cheap 15k range, But go and have a custom bike built with a chrome moly powder coated frame, chrome brakes, braded cables tons of other chrome and an automatic. how much would that cost? How about a West coast chopper or a OCC chopper 150K so I think 15K is not too bad. 8) Russ

03-19-2004, 02:51 AM
Chris, I had exactly the same thought. Russ has a beautifuk bike, though.
My first two Harleys were a 900, then a 1000 Sportster (this is going back to the late 60's and early 70's). I then got a Super Glide. To me it was just too heavy and not responsive enough. Through the years I owned at least a dozen Sportsters and only the one bigger bike.
I think it's primarily the difference in the type of riding one does. Russ probably let's his wife get on and they go cruising. Sporty's ain't nearly as good for that.

Nice scooters! here is one I built a couple of years ago, My 18 year old son thinks I am going to give it to him, He tells everyone that it is his when we ride some where.

03-19-2004, 03:30 AM
Here is my other one.
This is the one that the dude wrecked, and I am sueing him!
He doesn't think he owes me anything for wrecking my bike during a test ride. >:(

Scott, what's the one with the peanut tank?
Also, what is going on with the closing?
scottessex
03-19-2004, 04:15 AM
Looks like the closing will be April 9th, We're keeping our fingers crossed.
The black bike is a 1979 Yamaha xs650
sportster tank
suzuki gsxr wheels
custom made hardtail rear frame
LOTS of custom one off parts on this one, it took me about 7 months to build.
and did you notice the tractor flappers on the exhaust? ;D
Chuck Irby
03-19-2004, 04:21 AM
That is a wicked looking machine Scott. Yeah, I noticed the flappers and the straight pipes. I used to love running straights on my Sportster's. It sure changed the power curve, but around 4000, they would really come alive.

If it isn't someone you know you can trust to pay up for damage, Never let someone test Ride, Drive, Or fly your stuff. Only exception is to get the buyers cash and make the deal final pending test ride, if he doesn't like it he gets his money back - As long as he didn't damage it in any way - If he dropped it scratched it etc... it is a done deal and his problem now.
Chuck Irby
03-19-2004, 05:30 AM
Okay Ron, remember that when you want to fly my machine.
scottessex
03-19-2004, 05:45 AM
That is the way it usually is, but this guy was a friend of a friend, So I figured 'no problem' right, WRONG!!!
Next time it's cash up front for anything I sell, I'll hold the cash, you ride/drive then we'll talk deal.
Biggest thing is I have over 100 hours in that paint job, and now it it hosed. And I can't find anyone local who does airbrush work to get an estimate.

03-19-2004, 07:08 AM

Russel,
You need some more bikes man!
Get that car outside I did with mine then you can stock your bikes like I had in 2001...
barnstorm2
03-19-2004, 01:31 PM
Then in 2002 the gyros started....
Some of the bikes had to go into a portable garage out back...
Granted I did store the Harley in the living room. You have to have some respect 8)
Honestly though, It would be a crime to put that classic car out in the elements.

Scott,
That XS-650 is SWEET :D
I owned one for over a year ( that is a long time for me to own a bike )
I'll bet it sounds and runs great. Those engines can't be beat. Keep the electrics dry though ( if they are still stock )
Here is my Hangar Pit Bike. A Zundapp scooter ( Bella relitive )

Cool toys! ;D
Yup, ya'll know we gotta have our toys. I mean what else is there to do, watch tv? play golf? Naw, I want to build toys that turn money into noise!! ;)

This is great! Just what I expected from gyro pilots. Ground toys are cool but we all realize that there is nothing like really flying! Right?
Chuck Irby
03-20-2004, 03:37 AM
Chris, I concur. Once I graduated to the auto gyro, the fast boats, cars and motorcycles could no longer hold my interest.

My kids are grown up, now I get all the toys and get to act like a kid! ;D
I mean, why have a job if ya can't buy toys. If I didn't want my toys, I'd have no job and live under an overpass.
Or else I'd move back to Hawaii and live on the beach and surf all day (not a bad life) :D
Looks like we have alot of people here that have common interests and could get along just fine.

Chuck,
Having a boat does have one advantage over the gyro. You can hold more people and drink, eat, party and have a place on board to go to the bathroom.
Here is my personal income reducer:
A restored antique ( 1970 ) Marinette 32 Express. She is 32ft, 12+ foot beam. She looks small in the pictures but she can hold 12+ comfy, and sleep 6. Powered by 2 Dodge 318 v8's she can get up and run with the new boats just fine.
If anyone is out this way just let me know. We can fly in the morning and party on the boat later. Slip is not far from my Hangar.

Tim, that ain't a boat. That's a yacht! She is very nice.
I never owned anything like that. I enjoyed river and drag racing with outboards on 18' to 20' boats that would run in the 105 to 110 mph range. It was a lot of fun, but I saw two friends get killed in blow-overs. I gave it up about eight years ago.

Thanks Chuck! ;D
I love my boat. Eats up the time and money though. I spent 8 hours this weekend de-winterizing and cleaning and I have another weekend to go still.
She wont go past 32mph but that seems fast when you are on the water and steering 9000 lbs without breaks...
