Hi All,

I am just starting my Dominator project and Ernies specs call for 6061 T6 2*2*.125 Tubing for the Keel and Mast.

My local Metal shop has the 1*2*.125 tubing in stock and recommended I bolt 2 together to get the 2*2 finished tube.

I was going to call Ernie on this but I thought I would give this Forum a crack at this. Want do you think?

Bill,

I would think possibly for the mast, but not anywhere else. I would call Ernie before I did any mod like that though.

I found these guys awhile back, they might have what you need:

Bill,

The gyrobee used 2- 1" x 2" tubes to form the mast. It is a strong and proven method. You will pay a weight-gain price though. Check out the starbee gyro web site. I think you can by stock 2x2 tubes with no holes drilled. (may depend on the lngth you need.)

try them. starbeegyros.com

Alro Metal carries 2x2 6061-T6 material also.

good luck!

Bill, I built my mast with 2 pieces of 1 x 2. However, I did so, because a friend had the material on hand. If I had it to do over, I would stick with Ernies plans. If you use 1 x 2's for the keel, it will require more work and mods at the very front, due to the speedo insert. The same goes for the very rear end of the drop keel where the hocky puck wheel goes.
