Very sweet!

Who's redrive?

I like the finish work esp.

Your block color (copper?) looks the same color as the color I painted one of my restored motorcycles. The officical color name was 'curry'.

Did you make the pipes?

I ran with out the plastic covers on my belt also, but I got paranoid and then ran with the covers on.

Paul.......slider head still in box.....going on my new machine getting built

Barnstorm......"Autoflite" redrive, 2.2 to 1 ratio....72" wide cord prop, yes the pipes were made by the engine builder "Brian Maloney" A BRILLIANT total job
giving about 500lbs of thrust......orgasmic

Keeping the belt covers off.........looks more horny

Prop pitched to give 5200rpm.......NEVER need full power, when you do use it , that little clacker valve between the cheeks of your arse gets a workout
The rear seat tank holds 43 liters, those 2 missiles slung underside hold another 38 liters which have a transfer pump to the main tank when required.
Cruises at 60knts at 4200rpm....2 up FULL of fuels, useing bowt 16 liters p/h

Russ that is one sharp gyro! I like it alot. Your tail is how I think all tails should be made. Just a note, one of my yank friends got over 700 pounds of thrust with his EJ-22...

Lovely job Russ, well done !! Particularly like the pipes, are they straight through or are they mufflers ???
Just a bit the sub 4 doesnt come with a 2.62 ratio, they are one heavy box and will be interesting to see how they stand up !

OzyRuss
09-10-2005, 11:38 AM
Ron.........700lbs thrust........bloody hell, awsum

Brian.......they are mufflers too, all stainless steel, bystanders reckon it sounds real good, sort of like a radial engine noise they say ????

The redrive is from the sub 4 company that had an ownership spat, bowt a year ago. This guy now produces his own version of the original gearbox....."Autoflite" can get a number of different ratios too. The guy that built this engine for me , had a good look inside this box, says it looks like it will be a winner.........time will tell

Anyway just clearin me mail, before I'm off in the machine to a remote fishing lodge, bowt 4 hrs return flite......let's see how this new engine and box go aye.......

Here is a few shots of the 700 pounder. One shot you see him pulling on the thrust scale

Okay Russ, could I have a number for Brian Maloney please ?
Would likwe the number for the Autoflight manufacturer too please if they have other ratios as I like the box, it is a lot heavier than the rotax but I'm not sure how much stronger the cogs and bearings are.

Brian, I will be seeing Brian Maloney on monday and will ask him if I can give you his number. He only does engines on a very limited basis as he is learning to fly his own machine that he and I built a year or so back. The engines he does arn't cheap but you will hard pressed to find one put together like these.
Russ ,only 500 lbs ?,buy some decent scales.

Somehow I slipped in a pic of Barry K's gyrobee. Anyone here think that it could have 700 pounds of push? I didn't think so :)

Thanks Murray and thanks Russ !!
Was interested in the exhaust Murray, not in the market for a motor although his motor is a real piece of art and probably expensive.
I have to get a canopy first, hopefully an Owen Dull !! then I will worry about the power plant although it will most likely be a Suby 2.2 with an Autoflight box, Ivo prop, a Stan Foster tail, Patroney 29 or 30 footers.......yep, I can see it clearly !!!

OzyRuss
09-12-2005, 04:10 AM
Brian.......before you get an Ivo prop......give a wide cord patroney a go.......they are great [ borrow one to test ] maybe one off me ???

Those tails you mentioned, more info please mate.....

Chopper Reid
09-12-2005, 04:23 AM
Thanks Russ, I just thought opinion favoured the Ivo, I know Birdy spoke highly of the Ivo plus its easy to change pitch. Also Menzy from Broken Hill has tried them all and he favoured the Ivo too.

The tail is the one on the back of Stan Fosters RAF, ask him for a photo of it, just the greatest looking tail I have ever seen !!! He is on this forum. Its a conventional tail but he has winglets on the HS. Really neat !!!!!

Thanks for the offer to try yours but probably a bit difficult with the distance.

Interesting figures here......

Recently replaced my sub4, twin carb engine with en ej22 EFI
Instantly have GRUNT, with attitude :)
Cruzin at 4200rpm, 2 up [ both engines ]......the ej22 is useing 5 liters per hr less than the sub4.
great result......more power.....less fuel :D

Russ, I had a factory turboed EFI EA 81 before putting in a EFI 2.2 and I found a big differnce in power although it is the reliability that is the most stunning breakthrough. I had warped heads and all sorts of problems and if I got 350 hours out of a motor, I was doing real well plus it needed an oil cooler and even with that, it started to get hot as soon as you started to really push it.
The 2.2 has now got 1700 hours on it. We did replace a water pump that had a very small leak early on and the only thing that has put me down was a fuel pump, I would advise you to change the fuel pump every 500 hours.

Russ, whats the weight difference between the Sub 4 and the 2.2 ?

Russ,

Interesting pipes.

I noticed they are slightly pointed to the side than down.

How do they sound for people on the ground when you are in flight.

I would rather hear the blades & prop than the engine.

OzyRuss

Pointed a bit both ways....

Sounds a bit like a radial engine they tell me....

Wouldn't we all like just to hear dem blades......[wisk,wisk,wisk sort of like]

O yea........that 500lbs thrust I gave as a guess......sorry, not even in the ball park...........LOT'S MORE. Will get an accurate guage, and do a test....stay tuned

[ can't let a yank have more thrust than me.....shyte ]
