I've been thinking of changing the insturment panel on my Ultrawhite. Inspired by David Holmes, I was thinking of a simple solution like his mailbox, but wanted something of my own.

So I was thinking about a piece of 4x4 pvc used for privacy fence. I was thinking about removing the pod and mounting the 4x4 on the same tube as the original, vertically, just above the rudder pedals.

The 4x4 is hollow and mounting my insturments would be rather easy.

Has anyone ever tried this, and if so did it work ok? Also I would need a way to cap the top and bottom of the 4x4. I don't really care about the fence post caps they sell. Any ideas?

PVC is sorta heavy and 4x4 will be draggy and PVC is brittle.
Go for it.

I agree with Mike. What Dave has is nice in that he can put some stuff inside and take it with him - just got to be careful as too much weight up there and you can find yourself running out of back stick - But the Stock Ultrawhite panel is one of the nicest instrument pods out there. It looks good, has room for more instruments than Ernie installs and it is alway on there working...

I make PVC fence posts and they're heavy and brittle. If you wanted, I could send you a peice to try but I believe it could be made out of aluminum pretty easily.

Thanks guys. You're right, I'll just leave it alone and fly it.
