Sup guys? I am seeking some advice on how to go about repainting the H/VS on my new (used) gyro.

I've recently been lucky enough to purchase a used A/C447 and while I'm working on the CLT upgrade, decided to have the tail custom painted to add a little flare/uniqueness to it.

Do I need to sand it down first or prep it in any specific fashion? What type of paint should be used? Lastly, does anybody know about the legallity of using company logo's if it is not for advertising or marketing purposes???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll get some pics on the forum when it's all done and maybe some step by step photos of the upgrade (although they will pale in comparison to rotor-heads stuff) :(

Check with your local automotive paint jobber, You must first sand it down with wet paper until smooth. primer with a good epoxy primer, sand and paint, the base coat clearcoats work very well, both DuPont and PPG have good paint systems.

As far as copyright infringement goes, you should be able to use a logo or any other copyrighted item for a one time personal use. IF you use it as your own logo, or put it on a T shirt and SELL it etc, then you have broken the law.

That's what I was thinking as well.... you wouldn't think a company would care about the use of their mascot/logo if it wasn't for marketing purposes. Free advertising on their end.

I may not go with anything like that though... just tossing around ideas.

Thanks for the input. I'll look into a local guy - maybe he'll do the pre-work for me at a reasonable price?!? Doubt it, but it's worth a try.

A buddy of mine is an artist, but has never painted any type of car/plane/etc before (strictly a canvas kind o' guy)... that's why I was asking what type of paint to use.

what logo were you thinking of using?

My wife wanted the yellow M&M or the WB frog 'hanging' horizontally from the vertical stab.... but I think I'm going to go with my old mascot.

I used to be a B52 gunner, so I'm thinking of using the gunner mascot (bulldog) holding a .50 cal with the casings laying on the horizontal stab. (Camo background of course)

You can always create a new logo based on an existing theme like I did for my RAF
