Anyone flying a Sparrow?

Well let me try again.
Just rolled my Gyrobee any trashed it mostly due to a simple change I made that made it unstable on the ground. I have taken 15 hrs of dual and am hooked. I think the next machine I try will be a kit with no changes.
I am looking at the Sparrow and would like some input?

Dennis,
Could you tell us about the changes you made? Even at the rate I am going, I don't have time to make all the mistakes myself so I need to learn from mistakes made by others, also :)
Thanks,
Alan

Not to seem rude, Dennis, but how about some input on your part? Let's hear about the mistakes you made, so others can learn. That's what you want, isn't it?

Dennis, was that the gyro I seen with the brand new Sport Copter blades???

Yes and the blades are no more. When I replaced the support tubes on the main gear I increased the length to give a little more ground clearance. Well I did not lower the front wheel with the mains. The end result was that the rotor was not parallel to the ground when the stick was forward. This resulted in the rotors pushing the gyro forward and putting a large load on the front wheel. I ended up putting the craft on its side on my third run down the runway. I was not even trying to get the front wheel off the ground.
Well my real point with the original post was to try to find out about the Sparrow since I am thinking of getting a kit and sticking to a stock design. CLT looks good to me. Any input on the Sparrow?

That was not my idea. I wanted to learn from others if they had any input on the Sparrow. My plan was to put some info on the Gyrobee thread when I was ready to publish my mistakes on my last project.

Dennis,
I've been reading this forum and the old forum for several years, and I don't recall reading about anyone building a Sparrow.
How about one of the more proven models?

Hiya Dennis,
Ouch, that would hurt! Is it really so badly trashed you need to start over?
May I ask how much you'd raised the a/c over the mains?
cheers,
John

Sorry, Dennis. I may have seemed a little quick on the draw. Not my intention and I apologize. I just know there are many here building bees, and doing landing gear mods right now. Many thanks, and sorry to hear about your prong. We've all done it probably, and I could write about a few of my own that resulted in rolling up the AC. Of course, when people are shooting holes in your ride, you tend to fly a bit differently. :D
So, will look forward to your complete story.......
As for the Sparrow, I've read about it, and am impressed. I have no idea if there are any current builds going. I know about a few that are used as trainers, and all reports look good. I'm just not qualified to give an opinion on this, sorry. There's a CFI using one in Utah, Michael (?), maybe he will chime in.

I looked for your info in the Gyrobee area but you never continued educating us about this problem. Did you go with the modified gear or the original wide gear? Any pix? (before)

Gary, when you search the forum for information you'll get threads that may be many years old. It's best to take a peek at the dates in the upper left corner before you reply. This thread ended 3 years ago, and if you click on his name it'll show that he hasn't logged on in over a year, he may not even be in gyros anymore.

I figured he was probably not going to answer but I'll bet somebody here knows if he used the old gear or not. I would find it comforting if I were to find out it was the modified gear.
