What kind of battery are you guys running with non-electric start gyro's?
I am looking for a small sealed battery, like out of a small motorcycle, or 12 volt security system batt, now that I have a voltage reg, I can run a few assesories, light strobe, smoke pump, etc.

I bought the smallest one Lockwood sells and it works fine. Was something like 20 bucks.

Oh and you might wonder how I am home to post this at not even 4 pm...... It is hotter than hell outside now and I had to call it quits for the day! I think the heat index is something like 120 outside right now and code red ozone. I got 10 yards done so I did work some today. Wish I was at Mentone right now.

Scott, is the regulator not working without a battery, or are you just being conservative. I plan on doing the same thing but was worried the regulator would not work without a battery. I only plan to run strobes, radio, and gps. I'm just concerned of low voltage harming my electronics.

The regulator works fine, The tach won't work with out a battery in the system for some reason, Rotax uses a dedicated tach wire on thier electronic ignition. The Hirth tach pulses come from the lighting coil,(both sides) .
I could always just get a tiny tach, but then I would have to redo my instrument panel.
