Alright, confession is good for the soul. Shortly after getting my gyro together I was tweaking the engine and started it and brought it up to speed too quickly without warming up. You guessed it, cold seizure. Since that time, it has run fine and I've seen no performance problems, but I knew it happened. So, last week I pulled off the cylinders and sure enough there were some pretty bad scoring marks down the sides of both pistons but fortunately the cylindersw were fine, nothing that couldn't be honed out. So I spent a couple days figuring out exactly what I needed and ordered $425 worth of parts from CPS. The pistons were $196 each. Everything went back together great and I spent yesterday breaking it in.
My ignorance cost me almost $500 with overnight shipping. Man I wish some of these lessons weren't so expensive >:( .
Anyway everything is back together and broke in and ready to fly again. I was only apart for 5 days.
Anyway the unbelievably expensive rotax parts got me thinking.
See the next thread.
