Nice machine and trailer. Good luck with the sale. I will offer 12 for it?

I just wanted to make -A- offer. I highly doubt my offer comes close to what he would take for it. Kinda like Bidding on Ebay for something you know your bid has to be lower than the reserve.

Ron, I agree. Once you place a bid, you can always go up, but never down.

All I can tell you about why Marty is selling, is that he would rather not sell it, but is forced to. His humorious remark when I asked him why was that he was moving to Tibet.
I don't think Marty reads these forums, so you'll have to call him with your offers.

Hi Gary,
I think the Gyro is sold. My friend Carl called Marty today and made him an offer. The last I heard the offer was accepted. Thanks for all your help.

Yes, it appears sold. Marty was packing it up today and was expecting the funds to transfer soon. The person that bought it got an excellent machine at an excellent price.

How much did it go for?

If I were a betting person, I would bet it went for $20,000. Wouldn't you at that price?

I don't know..... If you were to buy a new one and do a trailer as nice as that one I suppose it was a deal. But then again 20 grand is a lot of smack for what you end up with. 20 grand would buy a nice two place Cessna 120, 140, 150, 152..... Aeronca Chief or Champ...... Luscombe 8A or 8B...... Taylorcraft...... Ercoupe....... And so on, and all of these can be financed and insurance is easy to get. Also for 20 grand you could buy just about any light experimental - ultralight two place on the market if built with the Rotax 582 and again easier to finance and insure. And really if you look around you can find nice RAF 2000's for around that price. So I guess if you were looking to buy a Sportcopter brand new it was a deal. Just my two cents

Steven,
Hang in there, don't lose the faith. Jim makes a fantastic product, but his delivery times cost him alot of customers. I think I would probably just call every other day until you had parts in hand. Unfortunately there's alot of truth to the old saying "the squeaky wheel gets the grease".

Steve 10 years ago the Benz was a much better car than a Yugo or the other crappy tin boxes, but things have changed and aside from gimmicks and gadgets, and the prestige of owning a Benz, you can get just as nice if not better of a car from Toyota or Honda or several other automakers for half the cost of the benz.
Sportcopters are very nice. Best workmanship by far goes into those kits. I have never had the pleasure of flying one, so I can't say it is the best flying kit on the market but I am sure it is up there with the best. Bottom line is I am a cheapskate and I place different values on things than other people might.
I love gyros, If money were no object I would have a mack daddy 912 powered single place something - probably a Dominator - and a EJ-25 powered Sparrowhawk. But I am rather sure I could not get a lick of insurance on either at this point. I can't even imagine having 20 or 30 grand or perhaps even more money tied up into a piece of easily broken, Stolen or destroyed machinery that if a loss were to happen I would be totally out of pocket. Just can't even begin to imagine....
That is why I would take the 20 grand and buy a nice Champ or Ercoupe for about 14 grand - which you can get insurance and for not much $ - and take the change and buy a nice used gyro and have two machines to play with. I was just talking to a fellow on the phone tonight who is selling a Sportcopter Lightening - a older Vancraft model with the enclosure - with a Rotax 503 for under 6 grand ready to fly...
But to wrap up I will say this, I am glad everyone else isn't as cheap as me, because it might become boring if we all flew 6 thousand dollar gyros. If insurance becomes easy to get for gyros - full coverage insurance - and not too expensive then spending 30+ grand to get a Sparrowhawk in the air would be reasonable. But think about how you would feel to open your hangar one day and find your 20 grand Sportcopter stolen to be never seen again, and your flat out of all that money! I just can't take that risk.
