Anyone needing to certify an aircraft at Mentone, get in touch with me as soon as possible.
Mentone would be a great time to get that "fat ultralight" legal and airworthy.
I put up a rough home page regarding certification questions that often come up. Please visit it if you have any questions.

Tom,
You are a breath of fresh air. Every time I start reading regulations, I get totally confused with the correct sequence of events to accomplish anything. I just visited the site from your last post. What a wonderful piece of information. Couple that with your down to earth attitude and logic and like I said, it's a breath of fresh air. One day I will need your services and I will feel so comfortable dealing with you. Thanks so much.
I enjoyed meeting you at Wauchula when you were certifying Greg Spicola's gyro.

Tom,
I know the FAA had a DAR seminar in Ok City last year, but I haven't been able to find out if they're going to do it again any time soon. Do you have any info regarding DAR training around the country? I'd like to become a DAR also.
Thanks,

A quick reply. The FAA appoints DARs on an as needed basis. I don't remember the credentials needed, but they probably require and A&P, IA and I'm fairly certain you have to be well known to your FSDO.
The local FSDO or MIDO makes the determination of your nomination.
It took me nearly 3 years to get through the process as it involves approval from the FAA National, regional and FSDO levels, Nat'l Examiner Board and your appointment also needs to be approved by the FAA employees union. Then you pay for and attend initial training in OKC and do a few certs with the local FAA.
As long as there is a need in your area, you don't screw up and you attend re-current training you should remain a DAR.
LSA DAR requirements are similar, but easier. These are spelled out on the FAA.GOV web site (through links)

]Thanks for the compliments, Rick.
I enjoy meeting and talking with fellow gyro people. They have become my best friends.
