Does anyone know if there going to be a fly-in this year in the Dallas / Fort Worth area during the July 4th weekend as has occured in the past?

Caddo Mills? - Chapter 007

Bridgeport? - What happened to the Forth Worth PRA Chapter (Larry Neal's)? Is it still active?

Texas Rotorcraft Association still alive and well, with meetings at Bridgeport once a month.
Two fly-ins a year at Olney Municipal http://www.aerovents.com/tra/
My guess is that the other chapter is dorment and some of the members switched over to TRA.
With the new trainer available (one more on the way) and Brad King as BFI, things are improving in the activitiy and membership levels.
WE have two promises as CFI's coming soon, it is worth the collective effort.
Get in touch with Dr. Stark and maybe we can have a fly-in on the works.
thanks

Heron,

Sorry, but I'm confused.

Is the "Texas Rotorcraft Association" a PRA chapter? If so, what is the chapter number?

You said: "My guess is that the other chapter is dorment .." What other chapter are you refering to? Chapter 007?

Is Larry Neal's chapter at Bridgeport the one that is "dorment"?

Thanks.

TRA is a former chapter and I think it is the one you call "Larry's" chapter.
I think also that 007 has gone silent, not sure if still a chapter.
So, no TRA is not a chapter.
Bridgeport is the home base for this Assn. but most flying activities today are out of Olney.
Counting all flying gyros around here it would be 3 duals and 1 single, just gather some more people and we have a fly-in.

Heron,

Thanks for your help.

Do you the history as to why the TRA group decided to no longer be a PRA chapter? Was there trouble between the chapter and the national PRA? Just wondering.

I just read the info on the TRA web site. I sure wish I lived closer. It looks like a great group to join. Texas is just too damn big!

Ken, I don't know the details but Chapter 78 and the PRA leaders got cross wise after the convention at Waxahachie. The bits and pieces I heard sounded like the typical poor communication/misunderstanding situation.

It was my impression that Chap 78 had their feelings hurt and decided to take their ball and go home (in other words, drop the PRA affiliation) rather than turn the other cheek and try to work things out. I believe the situation centered on the fact that that convention was the only one in the history of the PRA to lose money. What ever the reason it is sad situation for both groups since that is a great bunch of people up there and they were, and could be again, an asset to the PRA. But, everyone needs to remember we are talking about Texans, remember the Alamo!

Hey, we might not be so great but Chapter 62 would welcome you!

Ken, buy a SkyCar and all will seem closer too you! :)
The fallout was about words that were not spoken and words that should not be spoken.
One side got offended and moved to withdraw, the other side did nothing and that is everyones loss . . .regular PRA stuff.
But TRA still going up and around, come and see. Ron Snow from Austin is a regular, we took lessons over the weekend at Olney.
Hope to see you sometime before moving to Brazil, it has been 5 years now and I missed all opportunities to be at the same fly-in with you.

Hey JonVee I guess we could have some kind of informal fly-in around here, what do you think?

I missed the last fly-in. The wife had Gaul bladder surgery during that time. I was going to try to fly into the next Bridgeport meeting. But now I hear we may not be wanted.

I made the April Fly-in at Olney. What a hoot. Got my first ride in a gyro, planning on going again in September or whenever they do it this fall. I didn't get to speak with Bob Stark in person, but he was very helpful by email and even called me when he couldn't read my email address. They are a great bunch even for Texans!

Well, they published a little book of rules that are kinda misdirected, but I don't think that will be a great problem.
Just a matter of coordinating who can come and prepare some goodies to munch in between flights.
AS far as I know there are no plans for that specific weekend. The meeting can be delayed one week and there will be more people there.
If it is not too far, Olney is a better scenario for flying and the people there will be more than glad to have us. I can smell a big barbecue! :)
Everyone on the phone . . .

Just spoke to Bryan Fair, they will be having a Get Together at Heritage (close do Decatur) and it could turn in to a mixed fly-in.
E-mailed Matt, Brad, Bob O'dell, Larry, I try to get a hold of Gene Hull our president and see what can be done!
It is a private grass strip just close to 287 in Rhome.
It could be fun!

As it stands today we are going to have two weekends with gyro people and probabily gyro activites on.
Next Saturday (the 25th) is TRA's montlhy meeting, at 12:00 in Bridgeport (Golf Club at Runway Bay) after that we all go to the airport and watch videos and some gyro flying.
The following sunday july 3rd hangar warm-up and 4th of July Celebration at Heritage Creek Airpark.
JonVee wants to be at both and we hope Ken R. can be in one at least.

WE had a good meeting yesterday, the best attendance of all I have been with TRA.
Newcommers got to see real action, gyros been serviced, projects in progress, test flight.
It was a good saturday!
