Yesterday I received the May issue of the Rotorcraft magazine. On page 39, this was advertised:

A Convention First
The first 50, first time members, who sign up at this year's PRA Convention in Mentone will receive a free introductory ride from one of the PRA Certified Flight Instructors.

For anyone thinking about going to Mentone AND joining the PRA, this sounds like a "win-win" opportunity!

How are the non-members suppose to see the offer in the magazine if they don't get the magazine because they're not members? Will the offer also be posted on the PRA website?

Yes it will be posted on the PRA website this week! I have to wait for all the members to get the magazine first so that some people do not get upset that somthing gets published on the site too soon !!!

But even the website is not going to do the same job that "word of mouth" can do ..... so get out there and tell all your non-member friends !!! ;)

Tim,
If you'd like to copy this flie to the PRA site, it gives a 360 spherical view of the Mentone Airport from the air. Might help those flying in to see it, and compliment the nice grounds map on the site. Right-click and save this file:
http://www.gyrobuilder.com/pra/mentone-aerial-1.qtl
Note that the free Apple Quicktime viewer is needed to see and steer the image. You can get it a www.quicktime.com

Thanks,
Brian Jackson

At the rate that the PRA signs up new members during the Convention, this "free ride" offer should be good for about 50 years!

I want to go to Mentone, where do I find out more information such as hotels and such? Do I have to register or can I just show up?.

It's better if you pre-register. Helps the HQ folks keep track of how many
people will be attending. Also better to get hotel or camping set up ahead of time.

The latest issue of the mag has all the info. Also check the website, as I just added some of the hotel info.

Call Pam at PRAHQ for the registration part. (574)353-7227

Hope to see you there !

I can see my gyro! Yea! Blades look strangely small though. They are 28 footers but they look as small as single place blades in the photo. Must be a trick of the light.

Brian,

Crimany man, you should put a warning on that thing. I was doing a full-screen view, started spinning and I nearly horked all over my keyboard :0

Naaa... just lens distortion. My wife wears glasses and often complains that things are smaller than they appear :D

She does... just insists the lights are off. There's also a friction thermal expansion joke in here somewhere but I'm letting it go.

That Mentone Spherical was difficult because, unlike the heli I'm used to using, forward airspeed acted on the camera so the resolution is not as clear as when hovering. But I owe a HUGE thanks to Joe Swanton for contributing his time and talents for not only taking me up to do this, but for working with me to make sure a ton of little things like camera straps and shutter cables wouldn't interfere with control linkages. Joe was really amazing, and an incredibly nice guy to boot. I really hope he's there this year.

Thanks brian .... that IS just too cool ! I will see if I can get it on the PRA site.

Are you going to do another one this year? Maybe you could do one from the tower ? That way the people will be close enought to be able to see who is who? Justa thought !

When you going to make it back down for one of our chapter meetings?

Here's one (http://www.gyrobuilder.com/pra/starbee.qtl) I thought I'd posted before. It's a StarBee. Dana is in the yellow shirt in the tent to its right.

I can't get any animation. It opens in my Quick-Time player, but is a still shot. I can zoom in and out with the + and - buttons, but that's all. Any hints?

Never mind. I just woke the hell up. Neat effect, Brian. :o

Sorry, Ken. Forgot to mention that you click and drag the image to steer it in any direction.
