I need a full face shield for my helmet and the telephone # on their web site does not work. Any ideas?

David,

I've been told you can pick up a face shield that will fit it at a motorcycle shop, but I haven't tried that idea out yet.

I've also heard that the face shield can blow off if you turn your head while at speed. Someone said the fix is to epoxy the snaps in place. Seems like I remember someone selling a face shield retainer of some sort, also.

Surely they don't make their own helmets. The must just modify someone else's. I'll bet if you take your helmet to a good motorcycle dealer, you'll be able to find a shield that fits. It'll probably be cheaper as well.

I got a shield that fits from a local motorcycle shop. I think it was cheaper than the one I previously got from Comtronics, but it's basically the same thing. I was hoping the new one might be a little longer; cover more of my chin.

Comtronics recommends super gluing the snaps so it won't blow off; bad idea! I tore my snaps up in the helmet trying to get the old shield off.

I can't see glueing the snaps. Honestly, most motorcycles can go faster than most gyros. I never had a shield come off when I was riding with 3/4 helmet, even when head checking at high speed.

Chuter,
thanks, I also got new face shield from local cycle shop and it was less than comtronics.

Alan and Michael and Peter,

Murphy struck again. I glued my previous visor snaps with superglue and when I tried to remove the old visor one of the snaps came off. So having read the caution about the blowing off, before my flight today I drilled 1/8" hole in the visor near where the missing snap was and put a plastic tie through the visor and the helmet.

Goose and I went on a 24 mile out and 24 mile back trip to Clayton airport. About 3 miles before Clayton MY VISOR BLEW OFF. I was doing about 65 mph and the plastic tie was what saved it. I landed at Clayton and snapped it back in place.

About 5 miles before reaching "The Field of Dreams" the darn thing came loose again. Only this time my vision seemed different.

It had knocked one lense out of my bifocals. I am near sighted but I made it back OK.

When I got back I put a plastic tie in the other end of the visor that has a snap also. That should fix it forever.

Good flight otherwise. 6600 rpm gives me 65mph and burns 5.5 gallons/ hr.

Screw-In

I wear Harley type goggles with my helmet. Doesn't keep the bugs out of my teeth though. You may be on to something with the shield.

Hi Guys,

I have a Comtronics helmet and they do make a face shield. The owner, George, said you should secure the face shield in a more robust fashion. I haven't done so yet (still using MC goggles). He suggested using blind rivet nuts and screws, 6/32, available in many places but he mentioned Harbor Freight.

BTW, their new PH is 860 429 4308.

Happy Flying :D
