John,
Thanks for the link! I did not realize they had a new page up since rotorcraft.com or whatever it used to be.
Now I get to update the chapter website again...
Spiff,
Have some one look at those blades you have and or post some pictures here. You have McClutchens right? Lots of people like those blades and you could post them for sale or trade on the forum here.
A good set of 2-place blades might go a long way to helping pay for a set of single-place DW's!

Many thanks John.
Thanks Barnstorm, I will have someone check the old ones out. I don't know what brand the old ones are, they look just like the ones that everyone seems to have on the older air-comands. (?) Red composite construction, they plug into a hole in a molded head. Hopefully i'll have it over here next week or so and have a chance to verify a few things. (current owner wants a lawyer to draft up a liability release, before i can have it).

CONGRATULATIONS FOR A JOB WELL DONE and a big "THANK YOU!" to Ernie Boyette for putting web links to the PRA and this Rotary Forum in a prominent top right position on his company's webpages!

Spiff, Those are SkyWheels. They went out of businees a few years ago. There are many people who still use those blades, you should not have a problem selling them. Are they in good shape? Also give my dad a call at 813-634-3370 M-F 9am -5pm he should be able to tell you what size Dragon Wings you need. I said 25' because my machine is similar to yours in weight. My machine is powered by a 532 and weighs about 350 lbs. I use 24' blades and it was set up when I weighed about 250lbs. I said 25 because of the difference in density altitude. we are at sea level here and if I remember correctly you are at 2500'. Where are you planning to fly? I used to be stationed in Sierra Vista, I wished I had a gyro to fly while I was there. I loved Az. I want ot move back there someday. Any way I hope this helps.

Thanks Mike,
Hopefully classes and first flights will be at the san manuel airport north of the catalina mountains.
There is an ultralight club/airport west of town with a paved runway, out in the middle of a very flat valley, with nothing but some low brush to get in the way if i need to set down. that is probably where i will go at least some of the time.
I have heard some folks fly ultralights @ the wilcox playa (dry lake) haven't been there so i am not sure if it is a suitable place for a gyro yet. hmm come to think of it what is a suitable place? do i need paved runway?

do i need paved runway?
I fly my 447 AirCommand out of grass strips and paved runways all the time.
I learned on paved runways so maybe I am biased toward them but it is much easyer to takeoff on a paved runway esp if the grass strip is bumpy, has tall wet grass or such. I like grass runways better for landing though.

Spiff,
you take me back. I taught flying for the Pt. Mugu aero club 37 years ago. Flew all around the area -- at their expense. Often would take C-140 from Ventura to Santa Catalina for student's x-c.
My SECOND student wanted screw more than fly -- don't know if she ever got her pilot license.
