1133, and I'm not a pilot. Does this mean I can jump in a helicopter and take it for a spin? After all, there aren't floating green blocks in the sky. :)
It doesn't seem to have very good hit detection. It says I crashed, but I clearly missed that block by 2 or 3 pixels.

Hey John, How about this one! Do you believe this!
Chuck Irby
02-07-2004, 10:27 AM
John,
I hope you know that you have betrayed us all. The idea of letting a woman play what is clearly a mans game. I simply can not believe you allowed her to get near your computer, much less play our game. That ruins the game for all men. We even had plans to modify the helicopter and make it into a gyro. I guess we'll just have to find another game now.
Chuck Irby
02-07-2004, 10:29 AM
Pretty good Phil,
I guess she won't beat that.
Phil, what diameter prop do you turn?
Phil_Ruffin
02-07-2004, 10:35 AM
Right now on my gyro I have a 60", when funds allow I will get a 68" one.
On my game chopper I'm using a 62 foot rotor.
Chuck Irby
02-07-2004, 01:30 PM
Phil, I am not familiar with your game chopper. A 62 foot rotor????
Phil_Ruffin
02-07-2004, 02:48 PM
Sorry Chuck, My bad, I was referring to the rotors on the chopper game you posted and to my score of 2,318,561.99. I figure if you can get 62 foot rotors thru that maze you can fly anything.
Hey John, do you think your wife could be having beginners luck? ;D
Chuck Irby
02-07-2004, 04:55 PM
Phil,
I'm with you now re the 62' rotor.
By the way, first the altered picture of the bikes & the Grand Canyon, now the game score... I must hand it to you Phil, you're a pretty good editor and rather crafty to boot.
You are fortunate that you have room for a 68" prop. I am stuck with a 60" on the Dominator.
Hows the 618 coming along?
Phil_Ruffin
02-07-2004, 05:35 PM
Chuck, I don't have room for a 68" prop. When I get it I will have to raise my engine 3" and then make the mast longer.
I was going to make the mast a folding one for two reasons, one I want have to take the gyro totally apart to put in a one pc. set up and the other is that I will still be able to roll it in and out of my shop.
This may not happen till next year anyway. I've been spending so much time with modifing it I haven't really gotten to fly much in a long time.
If the 60" prop works well I may just leave it as is. Just don't know for sure what I'm going to do till I finish the projects I have now and do a little flying.
Chuck Irby
02-07-2004, 05:56 PM
Phil,
Utilizing a 68" prop sounds like it would be a lot of work for you. Hopefully, you'll be happy with the performance of the 618 with the 60". How fast could you go in level flight with the 503 and how much do you lack getting the 618 in the air?
Phil_Ruffin
02-07-2004, 06:12 PM
My cruise speed was around 60 but I have had it much faster. Once I was returning back to the air strip and was in a slow desent rate and I looked down at the air speed and it was on O. I thought it was broke but as I started to back off for final the needle started dropping, I had wrapped that sucker around. Gotta watch that......
I still have to get a radiator and then rework the control area to add in the RAVE control. Then have a buddy of mine come help me hook up the wires.
My shop is not heated so I don't get out there as much as I would like. I do hope to have it finished by the first week or so of March. Then I plan to take it down to Steve McGowan and let him check it out. If he OK's it I will take my first flight with the new engine then.
Chuck Irby
02-07-2004, 07:16 PM
Phil,
I know you'll be glad to get it finished. I assume you have a 100 mph speedo? I think you'll be able to do that flying level with the 618 and the 60" prop with an easy cruise of 70 or better.

I'm totally responsible. I added the game to my favorites, and the other day when I went upstairs, she was playing. I know I should have locked it out with a pass word or something, but now she is talking about learning to fly?
I could always take up fishing.

John,
That doesn't sound "totally responsible" to me. It sounds to me like you probably will have to take up fishing, or something that she doesn't like. Maybe you could convert your gyro to an airboat.
Ironically enough, one day while on the road between here and Texas, with my gyro on a trailer, I was stopped for gas and a guy who was looking at the gyro asked me how it ran. I told him that it ran out really good, that it would do 100 mph, etc. He said "what do you do, (to unload it) just back it down into the water?" I then explained to him that it wasn't a boat, but a plane.
On the other hand, if she is a really good friend, you could probably enjoy being a two gyro family and doing a lot of flying together the way my son and I do. My son is already having thoughts about getting rid of his trike for a gyro.

Hey John, tell your wife I just did 2774 on the game.
Chuck, what pitch do you have your prop set to? I know I will have to increase mine with the bigger engine, but to save a little time it would help to have a starting point. Thanks, Phil

I could do better if it were a gyro... By the way, My wife really doesn't want to fly. She'd rather shop ;D
Great score Phill.

Phil,
I'm sorry. I've been asleep and just found your post about the pitch question.
The truth is that I have no idea what pitch I'm running. I left my protractor in Bastrop Louisiana a year ago and have been using an adjustable square and a level to get all blades set to the the same pitch. But I have no idea what that pitch is.
If I were in your shoes and had a protractor, I would probably start at 13 degrees. Then you could add or remove pitch as required by engine rpm.
