This device was designed and built by Vic Shumeiko in late 80s. Flown with original wooden blades. I hope to put some video of it flying to my computer some later.

Very entresting!
Basically its a hanglider harness and bar attached to a rotorhead.
If you take a pic of a hanglider in flight and remove the wing, replace it with a rotorhead and viola your lookin at the contraption.
would like to see the video!

Is it a tow glider or am I missing something?

Yes, Ron,
it took off towed by common tow winch (capstan?...) which is used for paragliders. Glide ratio showed after detaching the tow cable was 5.0...5.5
This device showed good enough performance though it flew quite little due to some non-aeronautical circumstances.
It still rests in Vic's hangar waiting when Vic has time to play with it again. But he is pretty busy with The Hunter.

Gary_In_Orygun mentioned the lack of a HS, and that does bring up an interesting question: Since it is unpowered, will the same flight dynamics apply or would a HS just be unneeded extra weight?

It takes me slightly more time to transfer this video into computer mode but it's ready and downloaded to ftp://www.prachapter34.com
username: rotorpilot
password: Rotor34
go to folder entitled "new uploads"
filename is vintoprul2.wmv , size 6+ Mb in *.avi format
I even upgraded the glider with HS not to disturb Gary_in_O.n :)
(though it's really not mandatory for gyroglider)
Sorry for the quality: it was captured from an old videotape which was recorded from the TV when we've heard that the device will be shown. This is the only video of this glider, no sound survived.
Tomorrow I hope to upload a couple more videofiles which may be interesting. One will add to your impressions on the Hunter showing more of it's pilotage and - big grin - what happens when intercooler quits inflight :)
Enjoy :)
