Here are a couple of pictures of the Bensen/Brock B8M/KB3 I have been building. it flew first on tuesday.
Then it was flown again yesterday (friday), Rick Abercrombie flew it around the pattern and then executed a perfect emergency engine-out landing on the taxiway.
We fired it back up and took it back to the hanger, found some rust in the carb, Yes the fuel system was cleaned out, previously the tank was cleaned and sealed, new filter and fuel lines and the carb was cleaned, So I guess I will clean the fuel system again.
We ran it to max power in chocks, and Rick flew it down the runway 2 more times, and we taxied back and forth but never could get the engine to hickup again.

Great pics Scott,
I'm glad things are comming along well...Hopefully, mine will be ready soon, accourding to Chris, mines a "Trailer Queen," and I want to put an end to that myth ASAP.
BTW- Where did you get that Rudder/Fin cover? I need something like that for transporting. It looks like a handgun bag big enough for a tail assembly. Does it have a zipper?

John, The tail/rudder is actually a Ron Menzie flying tail, light weight fiberglass. But Rick says He doesn't like it. He said he feels a fin/rudder seems to be more stable.
here is another picture of me taxiing, slow.

You need to ditch the boat tank and get a seat tank or some type of mast tank. The boat tank is just too low and makes your thrust line offset that much worse.
also you probably know the Rock shield is not much of a stab. being a new gyro pilot you really should look into a better type of stab. Gary Safrit up here in N.C. has a nice fiberglass Dominator type tail for sale cheap. you ought to buy it and put it on and then you will have a MUCH more stable and safer machine. It wouldn't be hard at all to put that tail on.

Hey Ron, got any pics of a tall tail on a Bensen? I talked to Gary on the phone awhile back, real nice guy. He as running a Suzuki 530 engine or something wasn't he?
The boat tank probably won't stay.
I think we found out why it quit, looks like the tank vent tube spun around and was facing the rear, and possibly caused a negative pressure on the tank.
Also any info on plumbing a redundant fuel pump would help. I will be adding a mikuni pump along with the electric pump.

This is like the tail Gary has.

After looking at his gyro a tall tail will be hard to set up the right way. To do it right you should have 10" from top of porp to the attaching point on the mast. This will keep you from having to bend the upper support around the prop. So if you have a 60" prop your mast will be 72" this is the 2 2x1 tubes not the rotorhead

I am going to have to replace the mast when I paint. Just for piece of mind, it has some minor corrosion on it, so I thought I would just replace the whole thing, I think it is about 68" right now, I'd have to measure to be sure.
Do you know how to get ahold of Gary? It might be worth checking into.

Well Steve flew it around. It sounded good and strong, flew smooth, Steve said it flew great except for that engine quiting thing.
I charged the battery and the engine fired up and I taxied it around quite a bit with out a hicup.
Very puzzling. Maybe its time to use the arrow as a boat anchor.
Runs good when it runs. Anyone else ever have problems like this??

This thread is ancient history. The Arrow pulled a head bolt and ate it on take off last year. I bought the boken motor for parts as a fun project to see if I could get it running again some day. I have another Arrow 1000cc, and i wanted to have a junker to play with to learn how these are put together, what makes 'em tick and click.
Behm here, I have one just like it and I have a cuyuna 4300 ser, is (43 hp) and I need a new prop. I Checked out Powerfin props.com and they had one for me and it costs $550.00 with adjustable pitch, cool. Do U know of one cheaper? If not I will buy this one in time. By the way, I have brand new Rotor Hawk - 23' rotor blades and hub with 8" cords which is too big for my gyro and I am looking for 21'-22' Dragon wings (7") cords for my bensen, If U all can help me, cool, if not then Thanks any way.
