NTSB Proposes Changes to Accident Reporting Requirements
HM Staff
The National Transportation Safety Board has proposed a rule that would change what types of incidents are classified as accidents as well as changes to reporting overdue aircraft and the preservation of aircraft wreckage.
The most important change that affects our industry is the proposed change to ground damage incurred by helicopter rotor and tail rotor blades. Stating that main rotor blades are "lifting surfaces equivalent to the wings of an airplane," and tail rotor blades are "analogous to the rudder control surface of an airplane," the NTSB wants ground incidents involving those two systems to be reportable events.
