Another newbie from Down Under. Currently a military pilot in the Australian Defence Force, am looking to broaden my horizons at the recreational end of the aviation spectrum. I have looked with much interest at the Sportcopter Vortex and, whilst expensive, am psyching myself up for the purchase decision early 2005. I would be most keen to hear from anybody, anywhere with information and opinions on the VORTEX. Please!
I also look forward to getting to know many of you in the forum - the wealth of knowledge and expertise is self-evident!

Thanks for the welcome Mike! Louisiana? I think it's down south but I'll have to check on the Atlas - does it get cold down there?

Oh yeah.
I had to roll the sleeves down on my shirt today! :)
Louisiana is located on the Gulf of Mexico next door to Texas.
I live about 40 miles from the coast.

Steve, Harry, Mike....thanks for the warm welcome!!! People here in the Forum seem to be bending over backwards to help me - very refreshing I must say - perhaps there are still some good people in the world!!
Steve, i am currently on a major fact finding mission RE the VORTEX so ANY information would be most welcome!! I am Adelaide born and bred, but now posted to WA where I am shortly to retire from the Navy. I have already been in contact with Chip K (extremely supportive and helpful individual - his VORTEX looks great) and SPORTCOPTER (they tell me they have shipped 3 VORTICES to Aust, but cannot tell me who or where) Yours looks terrific...but alas the 912 really is beyond my reach so I remain in envy. The DVD's...mate that would be fantastic....god knows how I could repay such charitable goodwill but maybe something will pan out? Drop me an EMAIL if your offer is genuine and I am sure we can work something out.
I am looking forward very much to getting in touch with other VORTEX afficionados.
And comments RE Louisiana and the cold....I've done my atlas homework and realise my folly.
Thanks to all for the welcome....I am at the bottom of the gyro learning curve but look forward in time to contributing to the Forum. I've 2000 rotary hours and 400 fixed wing - all turbine - hardly relevant experience to bring to this place!!!
Merry Christmas all!!

Thanks Harry - and same to you!!! Yeah I tell a good story or two...you know..."there I was, nothin on the clocks but the maker's name, no parachute just two silkworms and a pair of knitting needles...."
Experience in the AS-350 (you guys call it the A-STAR I believe), B-206, and S-70B (very similar to your guy's S-60 Foxtrot). Served in East Timor in 1999 and haven't slept a decent night since.
Thanks for the welcome.

.......I was only over your way a week ago!!!!! My wife and I spent 5 days touring the south west and a day at Rottnest Island. I then sent her home to make wages while I trained for a while!!!!! LOL
I was training in a modified Raf at Serpentine and in a Magni down at Margaret River!!!!!!!!!!! I only arrived home here in Ballarat Victoria Wednesday morning.
I will be over that way again before the middle of next year. Give me an email at paulbruty@lexicon.net and I would love to help in any way I can. South Oz is not that far from me.
Regards, Aussie Paul. :)

Hi Marcus.
I'm a south aussie boy myself, and on the same learning curve, and like you finding these people most helpful.
How did you come across this gyro your interested in?
There's so many out there, and as I'm hoping to be in the market mid 2005 myself, I'm finding it difficult to make up my mind.
You’ll find the people involved in SA Rotor club most helpful.
Check out their website. http://www.sarotor.org

Gavin, I will be most careful here, for fear of sounding like an old pro or an expert - WHICH I AM NOT! Believe it or not I found the SPORTCOPTER Vortex in a military magazine and took it from there. Great place to start is their website www.sportcopter.com. The vortex impressed as a safe and robust machine - the excellent opinions and contributions I have received from this forum have only reinforced this belief. If you want to know more, I am happy to give you an information dump - drop me a private EMAIL. The Vortex is NOT cheap - you really are looking around the $35K mark in country with GST paid.
You would not believe the assistance I am getting in here!!! You have come to the right place!!
I'll check out yer link.
