I heard from a friend that someone had an inelegant landing with their Gyroplane at the dump in Simsbury, Connecticut.
Is this someone from the forum?
Apparently the 60 year old pilot is unhurt.
Apparently the gyroplane is hurt.
Thank you, Vance
Hi Vance
This is hilarious, about 45 years ago when I was taking lessons in the small town of Lexington Mo., not to far from Kansas City Mo., I went up in a 7AC Champ for the first time with snow on the ground. I made a 180 degree turn and WAS LOST as I could be. I just circled for a few minutes trying to find my bearings and was going to land because I knew I should not be up when everything looked so different, and so much alike. Well I finally got myself located and lined up on the runway and was probably down to 200 ft before I realized I was lined up on the roadway leading into and thru the city dump, which as it turns out paralled the grass runway but about 200 yards away. Did a "go around" landed and TOLD NOBODY !!!

I often lost the airport in my formative flying Tony.
I still have trouble sometimes.
The Dump is very near the airport in Simsbury, 4B9.
In my experience expensive damage takes the humor out of the event.
My friend felt it was a problem with gusting winds.
He is an instrument rated fixed wing pilot so he may be misinterpreting the available information.
It should be listed in tomorrow’s preliminary accident reports.
I will post the information.
I thought someone nearby might know the pilot.
Thank you, Vance

The only nfo I have seen is that the gyro was landed on a landfill site close to the airprot due to an unspecified emergency.
During the landing the nose wheel dug in and the gyro rolled over.
The 60 year old pilot was not injured and released himself from the aircraft before help arrived.

There is nothing about the gyroplane incident at the dump in Simsbury in the preliminary accident reports this morning.
Does anyone on the forum know the pilot or the rest of the story?
Thank you, Vance

Hate to see any accident but glad to see when one ends this way.

Not to denigrate this pilot in any way, but when I hear of a fixed-wing pilot
crashes immediately after takeoff and there was a 'gust of wind', my mind
immediately says 'took off behind the power curve, climbed and slowed, then
sank to the ground, 'inelegantly', as Vance says.
They have my sympathy. It really is a trap for the rotary rookie.
Hope he gets back on the horse.
