I have been in contact with Ray Johnson, the Coordinator of the Fly/In Cruise/In held each year in Marion, Indiana. The gyro community has been offically invited to this event. In his words "We will make a big deal out of the Gyro's this year. See how many Gyro's you can encourage to attend."

Saturday, September 3rd, 2005 is the date for the 15th Annual Fly/In Cruise/In at Marion Municipal Airport in Marion, Indiana. This annual event features antique, classic, homebuilt , ultralight and warbird aircraft as well as vintage cars, trucks, motorcycles, and tractors. An all-you-can-eat Pancake breakfast is served with all proceeds going to the local Marion High School Marching Band. Website: www.FlyInCruiseIn.com

<Cut from a recent e-mail from Ray>

Have your group arrive Friday afternoon. We have special early arrival activities for flying early arrivals. We can also set you up all together and make a special area for GYRO's. We want to make your time here special. It will be a good way to promote your type of flying.......

See: www.FlyInCruiseIn.com Click on LODGING: Special rates
$55.00 at the Comfort Suites if you are participating in the Fly/In
Cruise/In.

Note to all... I realize that this event is a long way off, but I think we can all learn from this early event promotion. Hence the reason that the PRA convention needs to be pushed early, just like this event is.

Don: I probably will fly my RAF to that. I love cross country flights.

See ya there.......

Outstanding Stan! I was really hoping you could make it.

How are you about taking passengers? I doubt that Ray Johnson has ever been in a gyro. I would be a real boost to see a few people walk away with "perma-grin".

Don: I am going to get signed off soon so I can "legally" take passengers.

However.....I originally bought my RAF just for immediate family. Its so financially risky. I dont care what waivers are signed....someone gets hurt...I am losing my assets. :(

Look forward to flying over and seeing you there.

Don: That fly-in looks like a big event. I checked the distance from my home base...1C1 to Marion. Its just a little over 120 miles. Should take just an hour and a half and I will be there whoofing up the pancakes. :D

Stan,

Yes, it is a pretty big to-do. I went a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun. There seems to be a lot of cars and motorcycles (obviously), but there is also a fair number of aircraft. I received another e-mail from Ray Johnson yesterday. Here it is, in it's entirety...

Don,

This is GREAT !! Because we have the Antique, Classic & Custom
vehicles as well as all types of Aircraft, we have a rather large crowd
attend the Fly/In Cruise/In. What I am saying is........ that the Fly/In
Cruise/In would be a perfect place to gather several Gyro's and promote
your type (Rotary) flying. We will make you center stage and make this the
year of the Gyrocopter.

Don: Sounds like a lot of fun. I will make the flight if there is no severe weather that day.

Maybe we could pass out some PRA literature.
