View Full Version : Horrible Slow Load Times

Since Monday the Forum has been loading terribly slow during the day. I have sent e-mails to my server every day and each time they say, "we've got it fixed". This morning I sent them yet another. This time I told them get it fixed or I'm moving so we'll see. I have an alternate server and the move would be transparent.

I apologize for the slow speed and expect it will be fixed, one way or another in the next couple days.

Hang in there.

Todd,

This server speed problem is completely unacceptable!

You'd BETTER get this problem fixed fast or I'm going to request a full refund of my subscription price and take my business elsewhere.

What?

You mean I didn't pay anything for this free service?

In that case, never mind.

John

(Said COMPLETELY in jest of course.) ;D

Thanks John :)

I just received my latest e-mail back:

Dear Todd:

Our apologies for the inconvenience. Our admin team is already working
on replacing and adding some hardware to the server. We expect the
server load to stabilize after this.

We hope for your patience and thank you for your cooperation.

I replied and told them I needed a time frame. Several more days while they are "replacing and adding some hardware" will not work.

I'm waiting for their reply.

Todd,

My load time today is much better than yesterday, but still a little slow.

Load time today started off real good, then slowed down.

I've sent off an e-mail to my server letting them know we were having problems. No reply yet, I'm working on it.

Hello Harry, They have been doing great for me. Are you on a dial up? If so, check your connection speed.

Harry,

I also haven't noticed any load time problems since moving to the new server, and I've been on alot lately, all hours of the day. Unless others report problems, I would have to believe Chuck is probably right and its a connection issue with your ISP.

I'm sure we'll hear in no time if there are more.

Hey;

What do I know!! I even have trouble with the keyboard. It don't do what I tell it to do.

It's faster now. Maybe my cussin' helped.

What's a dial up?

That might have fixed it Harry. I've often found with computers that a combination of Cussing and pounding my fist on the keyboard works miracles. ;)

Dial-up is the type of internet connection that most people use. Your modem dials into your internet service provider, makes some noise (usually) then makes a connection. These connections usually max out at 56K

The next type is DSL, which can either be a dial up (without the noise) or on all the time. These connections are usually between 256k - 640k

The type I use at home which is becoming more widely available is Cable which is available from your local cable provider (comcast for me). These connections are usually somewhere around 1 MB or 1024k connections.

A summary:

Dial Up: 56K Available from lots of service providers
DSL: 256k - 640k Usually available from you phone company
Cable: 1024k Sometimes available from your TV Cable company

Thank you Todd.

Clear as mud to me but I'm too old to try to understand all this *new* technology. As long as I can continue to safely fly 2-3 times a week, I'm happy. Nope, I have to include my daily ration of beer also.

Cheers!!!

Before anyone gets the wrong impression, I fly in the mornings and I have my ration of beer between 1200 and 1700 hrs.

Never after 1700 hrs. unless we're out on town.*wink*.
