Ron , did I miss something. Why don't you tell me something about it first? Where did you get it? Have you flown it?

Well I got a new toy while down in Florida last week. It is a Modified Bensen with a C-75 certified aircraft engine on it. It is a Bensen that has had the seat and pedal assembly raised along with a taller mast to make it center line thrust. It uses a Dominator tail tall, 25 foot dragon wing rotorblades, Wonderlick Pre-rotator.

The nose wheel is set up to caster and the steering is done through differential braking. The seat tank is a Brock and holds 7.5 gallons and it uses a electric pump to transfer fuel up to a 5 gallon mast tank that then uses gravity to feed the engines carb.

In the pictures I had the pump handle stick off as it was too short for me and I had gotten it extended and was waiting for the paint to dry before putting it back on. The whole control system is heavy duty with the rod ends and push tubes being oversize and the pump sticks pivot point being more robust than normal.

The instrument pod has a compass, airspeed, altimeter, Rpm, CHT CHT, and oil pressure and temp under the pod. On the right hand side of the seat is a place to mount your radio and on the left hand side is a real aircraft type throttle quadrant with carb heat knob, and switches for the two mags and a switch for the fuel transfer pump.

The engine is a 75 horsepower four stroke. It has no electrical system so to start it you turn the mags off and with the throttle closed you flip the prop through 8 blades - or four complete turns - and then crack open the throttle and turn the mags to On and give the prop a flip and she fires right up. It is a smooth running engine and semi quiet - although the guys at the airport said when I flew over yesterday in it that it was pretty loud to them on the ground.... During take off the engine will turn slightly over 2500 rpms while climbing out. Then once you level off you can start pulling the throttle back and cruise at about 2200-2300 Rpm's which is less than 70 percent power. The engine is heavy but is much more powerful feeling than a direct drive subaru, almost felt as lively as the 582 on my old Dominator as far as play power goes. The blades are surprisingly smooth and the gyro feels very solid. I haven't flown it with the longer stick yet but hope to soon.

I am pretty happy with it but have a deal worked out for another machine I plan to pick up at Bensen Days. So this one is up for grabs if anyone wants it. I will take best offer - over - 7500.00$ But if it doesn't sell I may just keep it and have two gyros. I find it very comforting to fly in front of a real aircraft engine and this would be the ideal gyro to take on cross country flights over the woods in our area.

Paul,

I like "Awad of sh*t" ;D Just kidding Ron, I coulnd't pass it up.

Let's see....Bensen, Tall Tail, Sweetie Tweetie, C-75, Non tail dragger, 25ft dragonwings. Sounds like it is designed to carry a fairly heavy load. Can't call it the "Load Master." That was my Ex's pet name.

You love Star Wars. I wish you would paint it your own scheme, it would make naming easier.

Very interesting, & nicely done. Someone spent alot of time & effort on that machine! With something like this , I can't help asking the question... Why did the owner sell?

How many hours have been flown on this machine?

Nice grab Ron, I hope you get alot of enjoyment from it! See Ya.

Not many hours, maybe 100 since new tops according to the logs and this gyro was first flown a month after I was born! I guess the last owner was tired of keeping a Hangar queen.....

I polished the blades and the mast tank last night and got to see it today in the sun light, NICE!!!

Hey John...... at least my Awad of $hit flys! hows them apples?

I say, lose tweety all together...That was the previous owners thing. We got to come up with something unique for Ron....He is unique.

How bout the "Titty Twister?"

Ron is a Twister...and enjoys twisting people up. That is the characteristic trait I like best about him. He can take jokes as well as dish them out.

Most folks don't sit on the fence with him, they iether like him, or love him.

Ron, I know this is a bad time being on the forum and all, but I've been thinking......I love you :-* If we got together, do you think we could have baby gyros together? :-

Hey John,

When are you going to repaint your gyro in rainbow colors? With your last statement, I would have thought that bright orange and checkers is just way to masculine for your tastes. ;D

Don,

Don't be jelous, there's plenty of Ron to go around. Look at how often he swaps gyros? He'll be bored with me soon enough. You'll see. Then you can make your move.

I could take his silence as rejection....You may have a shot NOW!!! Don't give up Don, I have faith in you.

Ron,

I've got the perfect name for your gyro!!!

Actually, you should give this name to everything your own...

You will have to write it all over the gyro.

It will save you future effort.

This is the Ron Awad brand name...

Are you ready?

Hey Ron!
Bring it to Benson days. My friend is looking more at used due to finances. I'm looking hard at the Dominator (and you already sold yours :'()
Great idea! Buy another Dominator. By Benson days you should be ready to sell and, Woo Hoo, I'll get a good used one for cheap! ;D

I will be there, the gyro will be there, it will be for sale most likely too. I am enjoying flying it though and may get attached to it......

Ron that is a beutifull machine !! Can yo tell me where
to get the upgrade for the bensen, or, how to do it?

GyroRon
03-10-2004, 04:25 PM
It was done as a one off by one of the previous owners. Don't know how to tell you to do it. Basically the mods were a taller mast and the seat was rasied to get the pilot up to the trustline. The tall tail is also fairly easy to do.

joeheli
03-11-2004, 05:47 AM
I can imagine that having a tall tail will give the gyro better
tail autority.

Can you tell me how to do the tail?

GyroRon

I would suggest making a trip to Bensen Days in Florida next month and bring a camera and take a lot of pictures. It is better to see it with your own eyes than to try to describe on the computer

Center line Thrust Modifications for the Bensen are done by
Larry Neal PO Box 927 Boyd Tx 76023 940-627=9887
http://www.thebutterfly.info/home.html
The Nov 2003 issue of rotorcraft had a three page write up on Center line thrust. Some of what they said of Neal was that he has built and tested gyros since 1973. Is a Basic flight instructor for gyros and ultralites, among his designs are designed a ballistic recovery system for the gyro. designed and tested Air command Int. upgrade kit in 2000. Designed and built a two place center line thrust gyro for training use in 2000. Designed the Butterfly gyro that is on his website. He was PRA Chap 78 president and served on PRA board of Directors for last three years and is Chief Test Pilot for CarterCopter.
The Tall Tail desging looks like MadMax Aero design Tele : 912-897-6702 http://www.madmaxaero.com/
And lastly a name for your gyro how about Tall Tail

Hi,
I think you could name it - TARGET DRONE - and place a lot of those bullet holes all over the gyro.

That would work in with the T-shirt idea - Shot down by the Rotaryforum! ;D

GyroRon
03-17-2004, 05:34 PM
No I am gyroless right now. I get to fly Barrys Gyrobee for a while since I am the test pilot, After that who knows...... I will be looking for a good deal at Bensen Days, maybe I will take one home with me.
