According to Steve_UK blog the LN-YUU Xenon in Norway is Yamaha powered.

I found some interesting photos of the cockpit,
obviously original Yamaha dials in the panel:

sorry, but it's still kinda under wraps.
I found this picture accidentally when following Steve's info.

Raphael visited them some time ago and seems ecstatic about
the performance. Looking at the dials you can assume additional
turbo charging on board, must have tons of power.

It's hard to say, if the airspeed is in kpm or knots, but climb and altitude
are in feet, so you can assume they are doing 110 knots, slight climb,
with just 6 200 rpm an 0.3 boost. Impressing. :)

From the RPM redline on the tach, it would appear it is one of the lower reving engines, possible the 3 cyl snowmobile?

This is very interesting. I know Todd Rieck has been working on a turbocharged 3 cylinder Yamaha engine for a 2 place tandem gyro for about six months now.

Great minds think alike.

The characteristics of the marine outboard engines is more similar
to the aircraft engines, than the snowmobile.

The marine engine runs constant speed, high rpm and power over
substantial periods of time without any interruption for cooling down.

Motorcycle, car and snowmobile engines are used at high power
just for shorter time, while accelerating. On the water the acceleration
is no big deal, even at low vessel speed the engine revs high,
like in the aircraft.

I would assume looking more carefully on the outboard engines,
which, like aircraft engines, have to be light and small, would be the
way to go.

The engine dials look more like a boat cockpit, than a snowmobile.

These guys use some marine Honda engine elements and transmission
for their aircraft engine:

Yamaha is also big in outboards.

Called Viking. 110 hp Honda, non turbo. Not an option for my altitude.

The one in Xenon is certainly turbo charged.
At least there is a dial for boost.

Mark would that be Jan Eggenfellner's Viking engine?

If so probably the first application in a gyro that I know of.

Have been very interested in this application in gyros as the price is much lower than an equivalent Rotax.

I do know that according to their site they can be turbocharged.

Eggenfellner's Viking engine is based on Honda Fit engine, not Yamaha.

The LN-YUU Xenon is Yamaha powered, according to Steve_UK.

This is pretty clear.
This s/n also confirms, that it is no "aftermarket" change by owner alone.

Seems then the the Viking has not yet made it onto any gyro yet.

WOW ! Whatever is discussed about RC as a business man is one thing .......

That he tries now to establish and implant a reasonable cheap and powerful serial bike/naval (?)-motor into a gyro is a big step forward and could revolutionize gyroplane construction and break the Rotax monopoly............... the more since the XENON is a well established gyroplane

The information on the engine is in the official Norwegian register,
and the cockpit image was taken from the Norwegian dealer
official page.

It's easier if your own dealers don't publicize it!

The certification of a Yamaha engine would be big news, and we all wish you well. I'm not sure how you do that without the cooperation of the engine manufacturer, but we will certainly watch with interest!

The Aerocopter AK1 helicopter got a type certificate in the Ukraine with a Subaru EJ-25 powerplant, but it is not recognized outside that nation. I would expect that a serious challenge to Rotax would require the blessing of the engine manufacturer. I hope you can get Yamaha interested!

Expended version from our flag ship Xenon 2, we have re-sized the cabin to install comfortably 3 persons. While maintaining normal performances, tanks to our amazing Yamaha engine with 180 HP, and powerful rotor adapted by its size for this job.
