What is the prefered coolant for L/C engines?
Do you get a special coolant mix for aluminum engines? or just regular anti-freeze and distilled water?

Rotax says not to use the green-yellow stuff, only the red stuff. I would expect the Arctic Cat to be the same.

Was reviewing old threads and saw this one about engine coolant.
My 618 has the green stuff in it. I know for a fact that you cannot mix the two as they are NOT compatiable.
Should I flush the system 4 or 5 times with water and then add the red stuff or not worry about it and use the green?? Would probably be impossible to get 100% of the green out of the system.

Ues the red stuff Mike. Dexcool is a good cheaper one to use, or like Steves link there is better more expensive stuff as well.
You should be able to flush 99.9 percent of the green out. Disconnect the hoses from the engine to the radiator and nearly all the coolant will drain from the engine, then remove the radiator and turn it upside down to drain the coolant from it. Easy work to do and worth the effort.

Yes use the RED stuff,it has better lubricity"spellcheck".Inother words you wont eatup your block.I can go further if need be.Also use a good radiator flush to make sure you get all the green stuff out.If you mix it,it will turn to acid and will damage your engine.
Happy flyin

I have always heard that about mixing the two kinds.
I will probably flush several times to make sure it is all gone.

your also not supposed to use tap water in it either. Not sure how to flush it without using tap water. just takeoff the hoses and remove the radiator and turn it upside down to drain and you will be ok. Does it not have a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator?

Yes it has a drain plug. I was just worried about leaving a little of the old stuff in the nooks and corners of everything and then it reacting with the new.
I think I will drain it, fill with water and run it, do that several times and it all should be gone by then.

That would work, just drain it and fill it up with water then draining a few times. Let it dry out overnight then add in 50/50 Dexcool and Distilled water.
