Chapter 62 has grown by leaps and bounds over the last year and now it's time we hold our first fly-in. The date is set for September 16th and 17th 2011 in Anahuc Texas. This is the same weekend as the Texas Gator Festival (www.texasgatorfest.com) which will give our visitors a lot more to do while they are there. We will begin setting up on Thursday and will be hanging around Sunday until everyone departs. This will make a great trip for the entire family as there will be shuttle buses from the airport to the festival. We will be offering a limited amount of T-Shirts for sale. If you want one you will need to pre-order to assure one will be there for you. The attached logo (courtesy of Chopper Gabor)will be on the T-Shirts. We are working on arrangements for RV's on site or very close by. More details will be posted as we get more organized.

Thanks John, it is amazing how much this club turned around and began to grow in the past year. Hope to see you at the fly-in, so far it looks like it's going to be a great one, we have several people in the region that have said they will be here.

Just got word that the Tomball Police Department plan to bring their gyro out. This will give everyone a chance to see the first gyro owned and operated by a US Police department up close.

Can we still order a T shirt even if we are not able to make it.
Price of shirt and shipping to Calif.
( It's a good looking shirt design)
Maybe we can still support your group by getting a shirt..:D

We have to get the details on the hangar space, the airport manager told us that it would not be a problem but we need to get with him again to discuss details.
We don't have a price on the shirts yet. When we place our order we will then know how much they will cost us then we will set the price. Anyone can order a shirt, we are not setting any limits.
To place an order please email Danny Whitten at dannywhitten@embarqmail.com.

I see this event is about a month away.
Any updates?

Not much on updates, just trying to iron out the current plans and make sure everything goes smoothly. We have been informed that a powered parachute group from LA will be there. Our T-Shirts should be arriving soon so they will be available. We are working on the details to make sure food will be available in some way. As far as your motor home, we can give you a 120 drop cord (maybe 2 if there isn't a demand, so far it looks like there will only be a couple more staying on the airport), not any other type of hook-ups though. There are a couple parks very near by for anyone needing hook-ups.
Our main objective is to be very similar to your Bastrop fly-in, keep it simple. Since this is our first shot at this we will be on a learning curve this time, we will build on what we learn to try and improve future fly-ins (if all goes well we plan to make this an annual event).
Everything is on go and we are really looking forward to a great time.

John, are you going to be there this year? Your post is a little confusing, looks like it says you are looking forward to being there next year when you are able to fly your Aurora.

Ah, yes I see the confusion. YES, I'm definitely going this year, but will be driving. Paul Erb from the Austin area may be flying, in which case I'll volunteer to be his ground crew.
But next year, I'll be flying. :-)

Next weekend!!!! September 16th and 17th, really looking forward to it.
We will be joined by Powered Parachutes, this has been a great combination at Mentone, hope it works out good for us too.
T-Shirts are in, purchasing info is in our newsletter.
We will be raffling off a radio, Vertex VXA-300, $10 a ticket, 3 for $20, all proceeds go to the chapter to help cover costs incurred for the fly-in.
Hope to see you there!

Thanks Brian. Actually this is all due to the efforts of our current board members. Just a little over a year ago our chapter was growing stagnate. We held our monthly meeting but had either no machines or very little and rarely any flying at the meetings. Since we have put together the current BOD we have increased the membership, increased the number of machines, we have flying activities at just about every meeting, started our monthly newsletter, got a CFI into the club, aquired two hangars (one on each side of Houston) for the members to have an opportunity to hangar thier machines at a great rate, and now are holding this fly-in. It is night and day difference from where we were just a year ago.

I have no doubt you guys are going to have a great Fly in. I have a couple of buddies who have brought their ppc's to anahuac on a couple of the previous ppc/gator festival gatherings and they, and their families, had a great time. Gyros and ppc's , great combination of machines and personalities. I flew over the airport tuesday, in my fixed wing, enroute to La Porte. Looks like a great location. Unfortunately , work may keep me away , but will try to make Saturday. TShirts look GREAT!

Clear a spot for me.

Not at the airport but very near by. We will have coolers and ice for everyone to use.
I have a spot picked out for you, just behind the hangar and right next to a plug.

Any one interested in a cross country to Crystal Beach XS77, about 30nm, during the fly-in? We are thinking about Saturday morning, we will stage fuel at XS77 and fly the beach at leasure then refuel for the trip back. Any takers?

Arrived this afternoon, unloaded the Dominator and made a short test flight and all was well.
A little later me and Steve flew south within a few miles of the Gulf and returned just before dark.
Weather is great and we are in a RV park only 1/2 mile from the GatorFestival. Looks like a pretty big event starting Friday night.

We had a very successful Fly-in! We appreciate all the folks that travelled to our fly-in, we had a great time and enjoyed your company! Desmon gave rides non stop Friday and Saturday and his wife Crissy had a massage table and equipment set up, what a nice addition to a fly-in, highly recommended. We had at least 13 gyros present and aprox 10 powered parachutes. Here are a few pic's. Hopefully others have better pic's to share also.
