I think that Ken Rehler has one on his gyro.

What power do you want to use it for? At what speed? do you talk abour Kievprop?

Hello Ben,

We did extensive testing with Kievprops in 3,4,5 blade configuration with different blades and different gearbox ratio's.
Anything above 100hp does not improve the trust anymore. You are going to loose the last 5 hp. Also above 2300 rpm the prop does not work very well.
This is for the 3 blade with wide blades.

Scott,

I have discussed the Kiev Prop here on the conference and think it is a great looking prop, but I ended up with an Arplast Prop on my gyro.

Hello Ben,

We never measured static trust, but take off time and distance.
In no wind conditions with same atmosferic conditions and prerotation to 200 rpm.
In all the tests we carried out we found roll times between5.5 and 11 sec.
On top off this we checked the cruise and high speed performances.
The arplast gives a 1 sec better take off time (distance) then the Kiev prop around 100 hp. Above 100hp the take off time gets bigger between the two props.
The Kiev at 130 hp hardly gave us a better aircraft were the arplast did.
Under hot conditions 30 degrees c and a heavy load on the machine the differences became quite important.
Until 100 hp the Kiev is a very good choise it is strong, reinforced, a lot quieter and is very lightweight.
The best prop we had was a four blade Kiev. We made the hub ourselves.
It gave identically numbers as the Arplast or meaby a little better at take off,was absolutely the best at cruise and surely at high speeds. The drawback was the bigger ratio required. Above 2000 rpm the prop efficiency went very steeply down.It gave quite some toque on the machine but was extremely quiet.
