WHY

Hi Jon

Checked the Yahoo site Jon, saw a question about the Eich JE-2. That was discussed at some length here on the forum. Yes it did have a tendency to go into a flat spin on full power steep climb out due to "P" factor. Tail was to small and shadowed by fuselage. No plans available, best solution and easiest would be larger HS with twin rudders, other factor learned by Jim was the rotor should not be positioned at mid point between the prop line and the rudder line, there should be a 60/40 differential or greater for good control.

You might have the guys check the TRACTOR thread here on this forum for some of their questions. One guy questioned the prefference of the Little Wing or the Wag tail. The record holding performance of the Little Wing speaks for itself.

I thought the tractor gyro folks, especially you Tony, would like to see the Pitcairn autogyro on 'you tube' under "Legacy of Wings aviation pioneer Harold Pitcairn" part 3 of 5 and part 4 of 5. Almost twenty minutes of video on those two segments. Ever see a tractor gyro do a loop in the air? How about a tailwheel driven Pitcairn for the road-------no propeller moving it? It's all there. It's the first time I've seen this much footage on the old tractors. Miss Champion, Beechnut, even a rear drive tractor look-a-like. Enjoy. Jim.

HI James

Yes, love the videos of the old gyros, hopefully there will eventually be enough people willing to spend the time to build a tractor to get a a solid base of interest and development. I don't think most of those that start with a "curosity " about tractors realize how much work is involved in building one. I remember in the EAA magazine they have/had a section called "what our members are building (with completions) and it was not uncommon the see where some one spent 2 or 3 years building, (some 10 or more). We are lucky since we can buy the "wings" already made, just have to build the fuselage, tail section and choose a engine.
