I have a really nice three-point harness that came with the GyroBee that I purchased mostly-built. It is a little large for the Bee. I will have to have the straps shortened to fit. I would hate to cut it down if someone out there can use it in its current configuration. It is a heavy-duty harness, and I would like to trade for something that fits better and weighs less.

The shoulder straps are 2" wide and the lab belt is 3" wide, and it has a military-style latch. It is in like-new, if its not brand new, condition.

Please send me a PM if you are interested.

Thanks,
Alan

I bought my seat belt at AutoZone. It was 20 bucks and very light and strong. All you need is a Lap Belt in a gyro.

Whether I need a shoulder harness or not, it will make my wife feel a lot better if I have one. So.......

You should never come close to feeling like your going to come out of the seat in a gyro. If you do get that feeling you are going negative and all the straps in the world aren't going to help you. A lap belt is more than fine. Shoulder straps might have some advantages if you nose in, or maybe if you tip over while landing. But there is also a good chance the shoulder strap can hurt or kill you if the mast departs the gyro in a crash and the straps are connected to the mast.

Forget about it......The real reason you need shoulder harness in gyro is for dual time training. Can't get exemption without them.

My guess......You'll get to meet Jesus?!

Whatever the cause, you will probably meet planet earth long before you meet Jesus, at which point a shoulder harness may just prevent you having to explain to him why you arrived early.
Was going to make a joke about even him being securely attached when more than a few feet above the ground but suppose I better not. Oooppps.

Now now don't bite my head off.

the shoulder belts are for if you hit the ground goofy!

In all honesty I can say that in a roll over, broken axle/etc. the shoulder harness might keep you from falling sideways and prevent shoulder type injuries etc. I have never felt that I was going to fall out with a lap belt.

Ron,
If the shoulder harness is attached to the mast, and the mast departs the airframe, does it really make any difference what kills you?

WHY

Just a little side note about shoulder harness, this came from a old EAA article years back. When attaching a shoulder harness to a secure anchor point NEVER anchor it at some point below the shoulder level because in a crash or extreme foward G-force motion this will cause spinal compression and possible spinal injury, as I said ,just a note.

If we do happen to go early, we at least have the consolation of knowing
that we have an earlier start on coming back for the next round !

Aw heck. If ya really got stones, why not go without a belt completely? I've ridden a motorcycle for 26 years and have never needed one yet. Even gone negative G a few zillion times in the dirt and didn't come off.

the mast comes off in flight and your dead no matter where the seatbelts are hooked up to.

you roll the gyro over on the ground and the rotors hit the dirt and shear the mast off and you have straps attached to it you can be hurt pretty bad or even have your neck snapped. If you don't have straps hooked to the mast you won't have that to worry about it, but of course you can be thrown around more without them and recieve injurys from other things.

The main reasons people would put a harness on a gyro just don't happen though. And unless you are really doing something wrong with the gyro you should never have any kind of feeling like you might fall out of the seat.

I wear my shoulder straps in my airplane and any other airplane if it has them. If I crash my airplane, those straps will keep me from hitting the dash. In a gyro you just don't hit the ground in a way that you would hit the dash, short of a fatal crash where seatbelts aren't going to do good anyway.

Look if 4 point seat belts makes you feel safer, just install a bracket in front of the mast, sort of a second short mast to attach them to, and you will be fine. For me I think it is not needed and the seat belt is enough.
