Hi everyone, have posted this on the Oz forum and got a couple of veiws, thought I'd ask here as well and see what opinions I get.
I am a low hour pilot with a single place open frame machine and looking to have a tandem built early next year.I know basicaly what I want but can't decide on what type of tail to fit. I am looking for views from people that have flown both as to the pros and cons of each, keeping in mind that it will have a pod fitted. One thing in particular I am interested in is how each performs in an engine out crosswind landing.
.
Okay, next question, horizontal stabs. All of the tall tails that I have seen with the exception of the Air Command, have their stabs in the centre of the prop, whereas the conventional tails have them on the keel, half way up the fin or at the top of the fin. Is this just personal choice or does it have some effect on handling and stability? Just out of interest, has anyone tried putting a h/stab on the rudder of a conventional tail or would there be no point to it.
Thanks,
Bruce

I think it has to do with money and time to make the tail. As in the AC tail. Molds for a two sides less work and money. I add on HS to make a T tail is just that an add on. T tails that are made from the start have bigger HS and made to supper it.

More tail suface will help any gyro but is needed more with a body out fornt.
