I am having trouble finding ethonal free gas, if I want to stay ethanol free I will have to make about a three hour trip(one way) to get it. Has anyone had any experience with STA-BIL, does it work. I have an RAF so probably the biggest concern would be the damage to the fuel tank. Any other suggestions?

•More than FOUR TIMES the Fuel System Cleaner than in Regular STA-BIL
•DOUBLE the corrosion preventer than in Regular STA-BIL
•Prevents corrosion from moisture & ethanol-induced water attraction
•Improves marine engine performance YEAR-ROUND, not just for seasonal storage

Mike

I use the large bottle of Sta Bil (treats up to 320 gallons) in every 250 gallon delivery of premium unleaded I get (The blue colored additive, not the red.). (I have a 500 gallon storage tank)

I have a Rotax that has no prohibition on 10% ethanol use. I have no idea what fuel system or engine you are using, and what the differences are.

But to answer your question, It works for me !

Never owned a Subaru. I know the car burns it, I see no reason it would not work engine wise. Fuel lines and gas tanks could be an issue with ethanol.

I know Cessna recently published a warning about using auto gas STC with ethanol in there aircraft. Not sure why, but I was told ethanol deteriorates carburetor parts and fuel lines. I have no real experience other than what I have read.

Reading the bottle, one of the things STA BIL says it does is prevent or inhibit water absorption. I think it is good insurance. I use it.

One would think someone would invent a gasket, hoses, and rings that would not be affected by ethanol thus making them very rich and opening up the list of fuels that can safely be used by aviation as well as ground transportaion.

Sounds like the same thing as not curing cancer cause then there wouldnt be a revinue producing disease. Make sence to you?

Sta-bil only helps with the water/corrosion issue, not with alcohol eating your fuel tank or carb bits. Sorry.

Mike,

The BP gas stations around here advertise their 91 octane premium as ethanol-free. Do you have BP stations around you?

It depends on the state and weather or not the state has passed legislature to mandate
ethanol use. Not the supplier or distributor.
I have found that the premium around here (Atlanta) is only 5%
We are in an area that has summer and winter blends and all the air polution wizbang stuff mixed in.

I have found that many Marina's carry Ethanol Free Gas. There are also two fuel distributors in my area that carry it. Ed and I bought a 55 gallon can. Great piece of mind keeping that crap out of my two strokes.

Good for you Joe!
I called every fuel distributor in the area and was told that they could no longer sell gas without the ethanol blended in, They used to, but some state BS...
So I emailed the state Agricultural comm, (they control the fuel)
Asked all the questions and explained the whole airplane STC, thing, bla bla bla.
No answer.... They are clueless, all about kickbacks, and subsidies.Follow the money.

Right. Like I said, I have a Rotax that has no problem with 10% ethanol. I use the Sta Bil just to take care of the water absorption issue and for its other benefits.

A Subaru engine and carburetor will surely work with 10 % ethanol, just as it does in a car. It is the Gyro modification IE: the fuel line used and the tanks that I am concerned about.

If the fuel lines, fuel pump and gas tank are all ethanol tolerant, I don't see a problem.

If it all checks out, I would use the Auto gas mixed with Sta Bil to mitigate the water absorption issue.
