Even though I am switching my RAF blades to SportCopters...I still have total confidence in my RAF.
I dont know if I knee jerked reacted to desiding to buy SportCopter blades...but I had been desiring to buy a nice set I had seen this summer. I have really liked my RAF blades....and I feel I would have had no problems with them as long as I maintained a rigid inspection schedule that I feel they need. I have heard so much about Sportcopters being baby butt smooth...more efficient...and just looking at the hub bar leaves no doubt which is the better design. However...Jim Mayfield had some excellent points and I respect the mannerism in which he posted them. With some inspection..some modification....they should be ok........but.,.....and I will say but again...
...I want total confidence in that rotor...and if the money I spent getting it is not really needed....the extra comfort level will be worth it anyway.
If anyone here tires of my positive posts about my RAF...all I can say is I am just giving as honest an evaluation as I can. If I hated it and it was squirrelly in the controls...I would be just as quick to post that as well.
I feel RAF has done a lot of good for the rotorcraft community...and the more I fly my RAF and test it in different conditions...the more I am convinced that a lot of the negative press I have read is not turning out.
I am just an average pilot and I cant for the life of me say I have had any bad experiences in learning to fly my RAF,....and in the worst way....self-taught. I will never condone self teaching ....but this rotorcraft was so pilot friendly .....it was a rewarding experience to say the least.
I have never contacted RAF or have been contacted by them...except for their excellent care I have received from them...and I bought one of their kits second hand.
There are so many of them out there flying,,and sure...there will be more instances. What convinced me to buy one in the first place was noticing all the RAF;s with hundreds of actual flying hours. Then...contacting several of these high timers just further reinforced my decision to go with RAF.
I am so impressed with my confidence in the rest of the machine..that the money I spent on the Sportcopter blades just proves I want to keep flying the rest of it....but under sportcopter blades. I intend and I will have many years of continued enjoyment flying in N500SF...and have never ever had a fleeting thought wishing I had never bought it. It is a wonderful flying machine..and I will continue posting pictures of my enjoyable times in it.
