Are the Hall ASIs accurate?

Yes and no.

They are highly accurate if precisely pointed and somewhat less than accurate otherwise. You want to try one? (I took the one off of the GyRonimo I had while learning and it is just sitting in a drawer now)

FYI - The man who invented that instrument lives just a few miles from me. I have been to his hangar and seem some of the many projects he has developed. Very home taught tinkerer kind of guy but very smart too. I thought it was cool.

I've got one mounted on the jury strut of my Challenger. Seems to be dead-on with my ASI at all speeds from stall to cruise. My max wot speed exceeds the indicator by about 8 mph. It's the 0-80 mph gauge.

It's mounted straight ahead level at 50mph.

Yup.
If it's mounted in clear air, and it's relatively easy to see out in front of you.

Grant,
I have one one the KB 4, I think it is accurate. I checked it against my truck speedometer it was the same, I don't have gps or another guage to compare it to. It only goes to 80, but thats fast enough for your 503
