Hello all. Mark Carmouche has offered to assist in the redesign of my bird so, I am starting this thread to share in the work we will be doing to make this old gyro airworthy and also to try and keep the design so it will fit in a standard garage.

It makes sense that this should be done in the Builders Corner but, I think having the thread here in the Benson Style area makes sense as well since it would be an easy location to find for anyone interested in this specific style of gyro.

I will be documenting changes and also modeling and detailing the parts in Solidworks CAD software which will be shared with anyone here on the Rotary Wing Forum for educational purposes. :usa:

I believe there are some free programs on line which will allow anyone to open and spin in 3D the CAD files. This should be helpful to gyrophiles now and in the future.

Thanks to Mark for the forthcoming time and assist and all of you guys who have offered advice!

Stu

You could also use a folding mast so it will fit in a garage.

Tim,
I am going to help Stu drop his keel. This subject has been brought up several times so I thought it would be good if he posted a step by step of his conversion. I don't want to venture out on anything new on this. Only what I know has worked for me.

I already have another gryo in the works and one to finish up. The new gyro will have several "folding" features.

Right on Mark. This should be an interesting thread. I have ideas about using the drop keel plates you gave me and this thread will help, I am sure.

I hope those plates will do everything you want them to do. I will be sending a set to Stu. this Friday. Same as yours, he will have to drill his own bolt pattern into the plates based on what he has. I see some large washers on his cluster plate, I am waiting to see his holes in the 2x2. Hopefully they are drilled correctly.

Hey Mark I have a couple factory drilled KB2 frames in stock. I could reproduce if necessary.
