Are there any other suppliers I should be looking at besides Aircraft Spruce, Wicks and Vans? Also do any of these have a better or worse reputation than the other? Thx

Those are the two mainstream ones however, you can also use onlinemetals.com. I get alot of my alum from them it is cheaper and I have always gotten great service.

Thanks, I hadn't seen them, found a few pieces quite a bit cheaper.

Another quick question since I am getting around to ordering a few things. Does it matter if I use the "lighter" washers. Example, plans call for a AN960-416, can I use AN960-416L?

WingNut :
I would not skimp on the thickness of your washers since this is part of the gripping power of the bolts and nuts. Also make sure any Aluminum you get has the stamp on it 6061----to make sure you are not geting the others....
Good luck!

Thanks Dog, I will make sure to buy the correct washers. Also you say it should have the stamp on the 6061 metal, if I order it from Aircraft Spruce, is it usually stamped? If its not, should it be sent back?

WingNut :

I have heard that some of the big malf. don't do it but I myself have not seen a piece that is not marked except the one piece of 2" x 1" Square tubing that I bought from I believe onlinemetals.com I called about it and the guy told me that they do not sell that in 6061-6t I told the guy I wish I would have know it because I would not have ordered it if so. it was a 2' piece that I was going to use on my instrument pod support. I would say question any thing that does not have the markings ( just my thoughts ).

So did you buy a jig from jake? it is worth the money. I have seen them, but don't own one.
