Just wondering exactly what is the differance between the Donimator and the Dominator utlra white? Outside of the pod of course.

Ultrawhite is a almost legal ultralight version of a Dominator. It is the same Frame, Tail, wheels tires, Rotorhead, Controls, engine mount, Seat tank, etc... as any Dominator. It has no pod, just a instrument panel and instead of a hydro Pre rotator it has a wonderlick. The wonderlick can spin the blades a good bit faster than the hydro. I like the wonderlick alot better overall.

Ernie builds the Ultrawhites as ready to fly gyros, and the paint work is always white - hence the name! Thank goodness they aren't called ultrayellows.... ;)

I have come to the conclusion that "simpler and lighter is better" when it comes to gyros. If I had to do it all over again, I would have purchased an UltraWhite Dominator.

To each his own, I guess. I like the pod and the windshield, myself, especially in the winter. I guess that's why we see so many different variations of a gyroplane, huh? :D

John boy, why do you ask? Are you thinking what I think you're thinking?

Randy, how many horses do you think your engine is putting out, and what is your fuel consumption for an hour of normal flying?

Chuck,

100 HP and I am guessing 3.5 gph.

What would be the pros/cons of putting a EA81 direct drive vs the 502 in the Ultrawhite for a 145 lb pilot? stuart

Wow, 100 horses, only 3.5 gallons of fuel per hour, and it doesn't burn oil with the fuel. Since mine will do 95 with only 75 horses, yours will probably do 105 or better. Have you pushed it that hard yet, Randy. That is an EA 81, right? Want to trade engines?

I don't know...maybe. stuart

Stuart, I may have confused you with my post. It was posted before I saw yours and was intended for Randy. Sorry bout that. See you in Lucedale if not before.

I have not pushed it yet. Still just getting a feel for it. No, I do not want to trade engines. This is my dream single place machine!

Stuart,
The main difference is weight and simplicity. The Sub engine is heavy but it doesn't burn much fuel. Some would say reliabilty, but there isn't a much more reliable engine than a 503. For your weight a 503 Ultrawhite would be perfect. With a water cooled machine you get into more complication. For a beginner a 503 Ultrawhite is perfectly simple. While starting out a newby should use the K.I.S.S. method.Learn to fly the machine instead of fiddling with all the bells and whistles.

I'm not sure if a 503 would be enough for my big butt (220lbs). What is generally the cost differance between a Dominator 582 (Blue Head) and the ultra white 503 in "Turn Key" form? Both in white. I do my own paint work :D

I'm just asking, not planning anything, yet. :D

John,
If you are going to ROC catch up with dad. I am not sure price difference due to rotax raising prices on an almost quarterly basis.

I would say that the same gyro with a 582 instead of the 503 would be at least 3 grand more. There is about 2 grand difference in the engine itself, then you got radiator and hoses and speciality fittings, etc.... That easily adds another grand. 503 would fly you John but it would be about like the power to weight ratio you have now with the Scrwdriver. For a lighter pilot the 503 would be plenty powerful to play around. Bottom line is - me at 200-210 pounds - the ultrawhite has been the most fun to fly gyro I have yet to fly.

I guess I'm kinda asking if I had an ultraWhite Dominator built with a 582 (Blue head of course) and a pod, would I have really just bought a standard dominator?

John,
The main difference is the Ultrawhites dad builds usually are for inventory. A standard Dominator is really a misnomer since most are custom built. I would start with the UltraWhite, you can always upgrade it later. Just about everybody who has flown one wants one. They usually come back saying that is what gyro flying is supposed to be like. Just open air low and slow. You should to get dad to let you fly it at ROC. Just remember "you bend it you bought it". I think I heard that from a used car salesman somewhere. LOL.
