I am looking for a full-face helmet for my Butterfly Gyro. I am used to full-face from riding motorcycles and I would rather have the full face and wind protection they offer. Does anyone have suggestions? This is what I've come up with so far:

Let me know what you think. I value your opinions and experience since I have little in this arena.

Thanks,

Bob

Have a look at bonehead .com, sky diving helmets, I like the guner model, and may run one myself. Use a set of earbud audio.

Bob,

I have no experience with that helmet but I feel like you do about having the extra protection a full face helmet offers on an open frame Gyro and I have bouoght one to use myself. I couldn't find one with the mic and headphones built in so I bought the "ClarityAloft" mike and in the ear headset. I will just put that on and then put on my full face helmet. I have heard good things about them and expect it to be an excellent system but I haven't flown with it yet, so I can't tell you how much I like it yet.

What model Butterfly do you own and how long have you had it. I am always excited to meet another member of the Butterfly Family. Are you planning to bring it to the Butterfly gathering at Oshkosh this year?

google BV2S Helmet by Bombardier (designed for snowmobiling and sold through Ski-Doo)
Racer turned me on to this helmet. It is usually available on eBay new at a reduced price. It has a unique way of preventing moisture from fogging up your mask and it opens from the front if you want to talk freely with someone without removing your helmet. I've used mine snowmobiling and really like it. I have a very small mic installed inside my helmet.

I had one of my motorcycle helmets painted white when I had the wing painted at a body shop. I was planning on converting it when it was suggested to me that on an open frame gyro wind noise will be my biggest issue along with the noise of the motor behind me. For that reason, extra baffling was recommended around the ears.

Russ - I will look into the sbowmobile helmets since they probably do a great job of keeping the wind (i.e. cold) out for snowmobiling.

Doug - I will also look into the Clarity Aloft and potentially convert my helmet. We've also chatted before (long time). I have a Butterfly with the G-Force gear. Ready for hang test / FAA inspection (paperwork sent in) / graphics. I might be ready to train this summer or fall. It will not leave the ground with me in it until I am FULLY trained. Don't know about Oshkosh (been there last two years) - I enjoy it, but it is quite the distance.

Earthboundmisft - I too, will look into these.

I huess I have my homework to do tonight!

Thanks for your input and I'll keep you posted.

Bob

I bought the Bombardier helmet because it didn't fog up, now I have a fix for my original helmets as well.

Thanks, Russ

If you are not too concerned about the cold you could try this one...

The flip down internal sun visor is particularly sexy, 10 different colours (even pink for the girls) and at $150AUD cheap as.

PS: Forget about helmets with built in speakers, your better off with moulded ear-plugs with the speakers built in.
