Hi, You could give Rick Marshall a call 219-477-5332. Bet he could help you find a instructor. MJ :)

That number for Rick Marshall was disconnected when I tried to call a few minutes ago. Who else would be close to me SE Michigan ? I'm looking for an introductory lesson and possibly follow up with full lessons if it's as fun as it looks.

Jazzen: Chuck Roberg would be an ideal instructor....patient and very knowledgable.

Gary Brewer now lives in Illinois. He sold his business in California. I'll find his contact info and post it later. He also now owns Mark Givens' Predator and a VariEze.

Randy Olson also recommended Chuck, as well as a couple others, but Chuck e-mailed me and said he's not taking anybody else this year. With no training that would be commutable for me Randy suggested I get a Intro lesson/flight as near as possible, and perhaps go somewhere for concentrated lessons for a week or two. Any suggestions?

Here's Gary's info. I don't know what his status is right now as to instructing. You'll have to contact him if you're interested. I took my training with him and he's a heck of a nice guy and great instructor. He teaches in a sharp RAF with a big stab and 2.5 Soob.

Dan,
I assembled for you a map directory (attached) of the instructors in your area, based on the May 2004 "directory" issue of Rotorcraft Mag. Hope this helps. Share stories of your progress!

Respectfully,
Brian Jackson

Thanks for the map Brian. I think you're getting me confused with Paraskidan for where we live. He's south of Chicago (I think). I'm in Canton Mi. I'd like to go for a ride on one before I take the next step and buy one/take lessons since they seem to go together. I understand it's a bad time of year for us Midwesterners, but if I'm going to buy and assemble one over the winter now might be a good time to try it then commit to it if it's as much fun as it looks like in the vids I've seen. Brian Olson says he'll let me watch him fly his around next time he goes out but it's a single place and the only one around here flying I know about. I would then look for an instructor for concentrated lessons of about 9 days since I can't commute. It seems that most trainees have their own Gyro at the time of lessons so it can be checked out. I have no Gyro now. I was considering a Gyrobee/variant, an Ultrawhite, or a Butterfly.

I say this is easy then. Buy the ultrawhite - Ernie has a nice one he just built for sale right now - and when you go to pick it up from Ernie in florida, plan to stay a week and train with him or his neighbor David Seace. Both are instructors and both train in Dominators. Plus it is always bright sunny and dry starting about this time of the year in Florida.

John: I am just 100 miles south of Chicago on I-57. I would be more than happy to demonstrate my RAF. Come on down...I will give you a private airshow and put a good meal in your belly as well. You can fly to Paxton where my gyro is residing...or drive. I live one half mile from the airport.

Hi Brian, neat map of instructors. But a few corrections. I live in Naperville but I fly out of the Lansing, IL airport, along with Si Smith.

Duane Hunns address is in Michigan but currently he flying out of Knox, IN airport and Oklahoma. He's been traveling between both places. I'm not sure where he's at right now.

Robert Miller not longer instructs in gyros from what I heard.

Rick Marshall moves down to Florida in the winter and instructs there. I'm not sure which airport. But I'm sure someone else here knows. Rick will be back at Valpariso airport next spring.

Ron, I never took Kandace up in the Robbie. She came up with that all on her own. I'm realy sorry she gave up on gyros. She was doing really well.

I Highly recommend Chuck Roberg at the Lansing, IL Airport, He is a wonderful instructor.

Gyro Ron, Chuck didn't talk me into Heli's, It's been a dream of mine since before I got my PPL SEL. I could never afford it, still can't.

I'm actually thinking about doing some Gyro flying with Chuck before the weather gets to lousy.

Kandace :)

Rick and his gyro are in Sebring, FL. for the winter. Rick does come home often, though.
