What rotor disc size are you all flying on your Monarchs.

I see Ernie does 22-23-24 etc. I thought Monarch were running 23 1/2 foot disc????

Also, how much of a change in the way the gyro handled/s after adding the extra weight of ATGFLG?

I'm starting to blow out on the 1 HP to 10 lbs of weight rule. Thinking of changing my composite Patroney blades for a set of 24-25 foot DW's, I save 30 lbs of weight right there. Although the Patroney glass blades are hard to beat for performance and smmoth a silk.

I guess the shorter mast determines how large you can get with the blades to.

Any info appreciated.

Cheers,

Mitch.

G'Day Scott,

Thanks for that info. I dont know why but we were advised to get 23 1/2 footers.
Patroney blades are 76 pounds at that size. I'm guessing your DW's would be about 46-49 lbs ?

Also we put a 10 gallon tank on two of the Monarchs here.

With MLS, Pat blades and ATGFLG, my own weight at 100kgs (220 lbs) kitted to fly and near on 60 lbs of fuel and you see where I'm headed.

I am looking to put a 24 -25 foot set of DW's on get near to 30 lbs back, this compensates for the addition of the ATGFLG upgrade.

Scott, how much clearance do you have with the rear blade to ground on the 24's?

Do you think 25's are to big for the shorter mast we run, ie: worried about rear blade ground contact.

Can you tell me how your gyro is appointed and size of fuel tank etc, then give me an empty weight, that would be a hugh help to me.

Further, with a full load of fuel, your all up weight, tell me what your DW's are spinning at.

My Pats with a full load of fuel are spinning up around 370-375 and back down to 365 as I burn off fuel load.
I was told once the blades get up above the 365rrpm the drag starts to go thru the roof and the engine is more fully loaded. I was further advised that going to a larger disc size will counter this by slowing the rotor, lessening the drag, though it will likely take some top end speed off the Monarch.

Thanks again.

Hope you all have a great festive season and New Year.

Cheers,

Mitch

OK job is done......a set of 25 foot Dragon wings are going on to my Monarch.

I have a as new set of Rob Patroney's Revolution Rotors Composite glass blades 23 1/2 footers very slipery high inertia blades. I love em but need less weight and a bigger disc. Will likely sell them here in OZ but would ship them out to the USA as a trade on a set of 25' DW's if a deal can be done.

Cheers,

Mitch.

Mitch,
Bill Weiger flys a stock Bensen mast with 25 foot Skywheels, fiberglass rotors and an 0200 Continental. Well stock length, the mast is 1/4 in 2X2 tubing, not 1/8Th.

Thanks Mark.

I had a good chat to Larry about the intended changes. We are on the same page with the disc size. As you say, will be OK with all the clearances.

The Dragon Wings will give me back some weight advantage to trade off for the G Force and larger disc will slow my rrpm down a tad.

There'll be some 'flak' from the Aussie Boys over the decision made.

There are some who 'flat out' dont like the DW's.

I must make myself clear, the Pat's are a bloody nice blade.

I have zero stick shake.

I pinch my thumb and forefinger together at their tips and my control stick (with motorcycle grip) oscillates gently, whilst only occassionally though barely touching my fingers at all.

The hope is that Dragon Wing blades are as good as the Pat's overall. I do understand they fly differently. I am assured they are a good, light, performance rotorblade.

Sometimes I get nervious when I see videos with the stick going all 'spastic' with overly large orbits.

I guess the thing which gives me most assurance is Larry Neal's endorsement of the product and here in OZ Muzza has had a lot to do with the DW's and reckons they are a good blade.

Thanks Scott and Mark, enjoy your Flying, Christmas and the New Year.

Mitch.

Hey Mitch, why not just go on a diet and loose 30 lbs ?
A lot cheaper, no money spent on blades and freight and less food puchased.
A lot less trouble.
A lot less down time
A lot less wind resistance too.

I am full of good advice for a good mate like you.
All the best to you and the family Mitch.

Graeme.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Gra Gra.

Thanks for you help Mate, losing 10 kgs is well underway. Though the festive season may throw up some obsticles to that, ie good food and drink.
