Does the idea of having a set stipend for BOD members to defray some of the costs of their Internet Connectivity since they are so spread out and need to be able to communicate with other BOD/PRA members sound like something we should look at?

It would allow them easy access to email and make it easier and faster for the communications within the orgqanization.

Say a fixed amount that would require the BOD members to cover the remaining fees required for their connection to the internet since some of the members do not have highspeed and if they wanted it they would have to pick up the differance not covered by the PRA.

This might be way to out there for an Idea but hey Im retired and have a lot of time on my hands to think of things like this. Sometimes retirement is a curse I know.

Jim,

I imagine that at one time, being able to read and write was a requirement to be on a board of directors.

A telephone probably became a requirement later on.

The internet (and the proficient use of) should be a current requirement for the PRA BOD
All current PRA directors are established on the internet. Some are not "regular users" and promised to come up to speed.

This forum has a directors only section and a recent roll call of directors was taken. I believe we will soon see much of the PRA's business being discussed and voted on in cyberspace.

Thnks for the stipend suggestion. Travel to board meetings is a more costly proposition. Someday, when the PRA is financially flush and I am off the BOD, I will make a motion to stipend the directors and officers for travel.

I have always liked the term "paid volunteer" because let's face it , in groups like the PRA it is usually a couple of dedicated and passionate volunteers who keep the fire lit and the pot stirred and the interest going. Sometimes at great cost to themselves with few complaints. I bet they would appreciate a stipend to at least help a bit.

Dedicated and passionate PRA directors are hard to find. A bit of money is not so hard to find most of the time. This may be a good idea Jim Skelly, thanks. Three days ago I joined the PRA based on the enthusiasm shown on this forum. Cost me less than $60 for the international rate. Didn't hurt a bit. Hope to do more.
