This was a really great fly-in and we had a wonderful turn out, the best Louisiana Chapter Fly-in that I have ever attended.

You can tell by some of these shots that I am really a great photographer too.

This fly-in was right up there with "SX Days". I wish you all could have been there

Mike probaly won't admit it, but I don't think he had any severe dislikes with it.

Gyros are awesome.... :D

How about posting the names of all the people in that one pic Chuck? I know that is BogMan - Miles Mason - on the far left with Mike Morgan beside him and that is you - the Old Fart with the EX Days shirt on.... Who is the other guys?

Looks like a good turn out. Who flew in with the J-2? What did Mike G say about flying the Dominator, and was it his first flight in one?

Good pics though and looks like you all had a blast. ROC is coming up quick and I think to all of you who haven't gone before, it will be worth the trip...

Great, Chuck. Thanks for sharing.

Chuck Irby

Stan, we did have a great time, and I know ya'll did too. Gyros are abosolutely the best toys kids like us could have, huh?

I didn't get the totals, but I think I heard that we had either 16 or 17 machines there and maybe 40 or more people. I'm not sure. How were your flights to and from, Stan?

Ron, you reckon I could ever do anything that would please you? :D

Mike G said, Eehhh . . . . it's okay! Rod Reed flew it also, and he thought it was okay too. I think their biggest objection might have been that it was too close to CLT, maybe.

The guy in the red shirt is Bob Simmons. I got to cut off his shirt tail yesterday. He soloed yesterday morning and did a bunch of crow hops today. He is to be congratulated, big time.

The guy in the orange shirt is Virgil Jones. He is the owner of the J-2.

Rudy Graffeo is the one in the white shirt. He has the white RAF.

The last guy on the right, I think, is Hubert "Peanut" Cavalier. It's kinda hard to tell in this pic. If that's not correct, Someone will correct me, I hope.

Jucie, thanks a lot!

chuck, I wasn't trying to piss you off or give you a hard time. I just was curious who these people were. All the time people post pics from fly ins of mainly machines, but rarely does anyone take the time to post pics of the people and put a name with the face. I just wanted to know who those people were.

And hey.... Why didn't you offer me the invite to fly Black Beauty? :D

StanFoster

Chuck: The flights to and from were the best part. :D

Going down,..I took off at the earliest light....coming back....I came back in the afternoon with lots of thermal activity....but it was a very relaxing flight. I flew at 5500 ASL because down low I had a little headwind...but the higher I went..the headwind turned into a tailwind.

Well.........

The left main tire was about an ounce heavier than the right...
The rudder pedals were about 1/64th" too far away...
The instrument panel could have been tilted back another 0.3501 degrees...

(damn, I've been reading too many of Ken J's posts!)

Actually, Chuck I like it alot. Maybe a little too much! I was getting getting some strange ideas on the way home. So was Rod Reed. Thank you very much for letting me take it up. Twice!

Ron,

That was my first Dominator ride, and it certainly lives up to it's reputation. I felt comfortable with it right off the bat. I'll have to write up a little flight report later.
Oh yeah...did I mention that Chuck let me fly it twice? :D

Ron , they forgot to tell you the local police showed up and clocked Chuck at 91mph . If he could have got that squad car it the air he might have given him a ticket. He said he had reports all day of Alien Mosquitoes. lol

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 02:17 AM
Ron, I know that you know that I was joking with you above, you AH. :D
Ron, to answer your other question, since I saw what you did to Tom Carlisle's red Dom at BD,s . . . I'm joking again. You've flown Dom's, so you already know how they fly. I have a deal with Ernie, I'm his outside sales rep. :D

Stan, sounds like some nice flights. How far was it?

BTW, that shot of the airport was taken from my altitude record height, 3750' agl.
And even at that height I was still well below the top of the haze.

Mike, I probably enjoyed watching you and Rod fly the dirty black Dom more than you did flying it. But I am also blessed that you liked it.

Mark, my friend, it was a pleasure meeting and visiting with you.

Scott, Thanx man, That's my favorite shirt because of the great time it represents and the fact that Phil made it. I sure wish you, Phil, Screw and Ron could have been there.

Pic 2, Gary, with a story that will have to be told by him.
Pic 3, Mike M and Mike G
Pic 4, Dustin Howell's Sporty. He let me take for a little run around the pattern. Very nice bike.

Chuck and Ron:

When Mike G. stepped out of the Dom after the first flight he said "Do you want to buy a Bensen."

It's safe to assume he thought it was a great flying machine.

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 04:25 AM
Thanks Mike. I sure am glad you guys were willing to drive that far to get there. The fly-in just wouldn't have been the same without you guys from the Southern most part of the state.

I'm looking forward to the fly-in at "Thibodeaux Field" (not sure about the spelling, but I know how to pronounce it). But since you all live around there, you need to put those who have to drive the longest distances up in your homes to help pay for our expenses. :D

It must really stink being retired!

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 04:57 AM
Scott, Bill Wieger flew his machine with my old ugly 12' blades, and it looked like he was doing okay with them. He had to use a 2' bar to make it work on his machine. So he flew them as 26's, and I'm sure he could have gotten them smoother had he had the time to make adjustments, etc....

BTW, that's the first time they have been uncrated since BD's. They are pretty descent looking blades, straight, and probably less dings than the ones I just bought this past May. Also, it won't take nearly as much polishing as I was thinking it would.

gyromike
09-13-2004, 05:11 AM
Here is a shot of Bill Wieger about to go up with Chuck's blades. I don't have one of him flying.

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 05:15 AM
#1, Two of the South Louisiana Mafia's machines.
#2, Bill Wieger's machine
#3, I was hoping the Bird Man could tell me what these strange looking animals are. I spotted them during one of my early morning exercise sessions.

scottessex
09-13-2004, 05:17 AM
Wow! he flew them as 26's!? Why so much blade?
My gyro will weigh around 300lbs, and Ernie said 25's were too big,

Opinions? If ya'll think they will work I will give it a try.
Looks like I may have to make a road trip. :)

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 05:30 AM
#1, I think this belongs to Bill Wiese. It sure was good to see you again, Bill.
#2, Another shot of one of the S L Mafia's machines.
#3, A better shot of Richard Kennedy's AC. It was really good to see you again also, Richard. You Arkansas boys really add a lot to our fly-in's. Thank you all, even Gary Hall, for joining us. It was a great get-together.

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 05:32 AM
Scott, we didn't have a good way to chop them off at the time. :D The one foot bar would not clear his pre-rotator's (two).

The Bensen with the orange tail is Mark Carmouche's, a.k.a. 'Friendly' on the Forum.

Mike, thanx for the correction. Sorry guys!

Mike, I hope you're planning to post more of the pictures you took (try to post about 50, at least). I'm sorry my aerial shot's weren't any better than they were. I took many, but only a few were even half good.

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 08:25 AM
#1, A good shot of Dustin Howell. Thanks for joining us Dustin. Thanks also for the Sport Pilot briefing and for letting me take the scooter for a little spin.
#2, It sure was fun flying with you, Gary Hall.
#3, Mike Morgan
#4, I was beginning to think Mike M was going to land in the hay field. I enjoyed flying with you too, Mike Morgan.

Great pictures guys! Looks like a fun time. Did ya cook up any Cajun food?

I'd like to see a few more pics of that J-2, looks like you had a good turn out, hopefully I might be able to squeeze that one in on my calander next year.

Chuck Irby
09-13-2004, 11:29 AM
Scott, sorry it took so long to get back to you. No, the 25' blades would definitely be too long for you. Back to plan 2, huh? Just let me know when you know.

I've been at my mom and dad's getting their generator up to speed just in case Ivan pays us a visit.

No real sho nuf cajon food, but plenty of great seafood both nights.

Now, per Virgil and his fuel burn, you don't want a J-2. It is a fine machine and he flew it down from Magnolia, Arkansas I think, which is about 85 miles, which means it took him about one hour to get there. I think he cruises at 85 MPH.

Virgil, Mike, someone, please correct me if I'm incorrect.

gyromike
09-13-2004, 12:00 PM
Sounds about right Chuck. I also seem to remember Virgil saying that the fuel burn was around 12 GPH.

Mike, thanx for the conformation. Now, when'r you goin' to post some of the pics you took?

gyromike
09-13-2004, 02:52 PM
I gotta go through them and crop and compress them first. I took 140 pictures, and they're around 900Kb in size, and 22 inches wide!

Here's a couple quick ones though:

Bob, the place that you repaired on my prop is still just like you left it. Thank you for a great repair job. I'm looking forward to our next fly-in already.

The pics below: 1, I think this is one of the Sharkey brothers. 2, Bill Brakefield on the left and Bill Wieger. 3, Me on my way up to 3750 agl. My whole climb was at 5640 rpm and at 45 to 46 mph air speed. A very enjoyable trip, especially coming down. Notice the air temp on my EIS.

remember the tractor gyro from Ark. with the neat clutch drive for the HYD prerotator? and Bill Brakefied 's gyro was there although he did not pull the beautiful KB2 out. (it for sale too.) and of course the club glider.

Great photos, guys. Thanks for sharing them.

Looks like you had a great fly-in. I really wish I could have been there, but the 9 hour drive was a little too much for me. Maybe next time, when I'll have something to fly.
