We use a small, Lightweight paraglider motor running at 13,000rpm and burning 2.5ltrs per hour, This drives two perminant magnet alternators developing plenty of power for our dual ducted propulsion system.
If you would like to email me at info@kestrelaerospace.com i can email you some info on the propulsion system. Its currently being used in a new high altitude airship which runs of solar energy but we have the system scaled down to a 20lbs static thrust unit and on up to 450 lbs static thrust.
We are using some Lithium Polymer type cells and also some fuel cell systems to replace the fuel burning engine. Its all down to weight at the end of the day.
I guess the best thing with our design is that its almost silent......

Kestrel, I understand that much of your work would be proprietry, however I would like to ask a few questions, particulalry with regard to the ducted fan system your using.
I have looked at using fans alot, however I always come unstuck when it comes to enigine out emergencies. Are you planning on using a BRS? Have you lookined into getting the fan to autorotate?
Ive got lots more questions, any thoughts appreciated.

We have several new safety features and we do employ a ballistic recovery system as part of that system.
We run specialist independant motors withing the ducts and two independant power systems for each duct. This allows us to run on a unit even with the loss of a motor in each duct. We have designed the main wing strut to force the ducts into a forward flight mode incase of failure in the control system. This allows us to land normally if required.
