Since this is still carb ice season, and we have discussed it at length before, I thought I'd post a link to the FAA's new SAIB on Carb Ice. The article was also featured on today's Aviation Network News.

Glide power meaning idle I guess.
It is 98o with a dewpoint of 48 now according to AWOS. Strange to think carb ice would occur in such hot air. This is actually not in the icing range. If the DP was in the 50s it would be.

Grant, the FAA wants certificated carb heaters to be capable of raising the temp of incoming air by 90ºF. To me, that says someone believes 98º ambient air could easily be cooled more than 66º, to below both dewpoint and freezing, in a worst case.

The only times I have had Carb ice has been in Lycoming powered aircraft in the summer mid eighties. The Carb venturi does a a pretty good job of cooling the air.
