Yvon, There should be plenty of experienced people at Mentone to check out your gyro.

Tim-
Did you just trim the original rudder and lose the lead weight and add two wooden plates for the horizontal stabilizer..........looks great and very frugal/practical. I think I might steal your idea if you don't mind ; )

My rudder didn't have the weight on it. The horizontal pieces are Air Command horizontal stabilizer pieces they use on their rudders. I simply mounted themat the top of my rudder. They fit perfect.

Hey Tim,
Elegant solution. Do you have an idea what AC charges for the rudders? What is the approx sfc area.
The hardware looks like simple aluminum angle. Are the struts steel rod?
Thanks,
Mike

Hello mike...
Just a thought, you can do the same simple mod with good grade Plywood sanded and given a "soft" leading edge, then covered with Fiberglas cloth.
Yes simple Aluminum angle for brackets...for support some folks like 4130 tube, others Aluminum (easier).
Tim's fix is simple, effective and elegant while providing crucial HS surface area for stability (which also turns with the rudder...very nice!).

Thanks Mike,
I'm interested in a Parsons that appears to me in need of more than a rock guard.

I don't know what AC charges for new ones. I found mine used. The attachment pieces are aluminum angle and the struts are steel although I've seen people use small aluminum tubing. Not sure what the sfc area is either. It was an easy mod and the stab halves fit perfect on the top of my rudder.

Here is the rock guard flipped over and added to the tail. I have no sense of instability but I have no reference as to how it felt before... FWIW. We took the rock guard and notched the V out of the back to get the tip in line with the front of the Vertical Stabilizer. With full rudder deflection the rudder clears the HS. We used 2 pieces of 1" aluminum angle horizontally on the VS to HS joint, riveted the angle to the VS and used flathead screws through to the angle on the HS. Then we re-used the flat straps from the original location and made forward supports from the HS to the VS and reused the holes in the HS/rockguard.

VERY Nice...I like what you did there with that Rock Guard.

Hi All,
Can anyone here tell me if there is an issue with the stabilizer with the weight and ballance as i seem to be getting some pics of various tail sections but not sure of the W@B ??
