I am looking at the Tiny tach from aircraft spruce. I was going to order it tonight, but not sure what model I need with the Subaru engine. EA-82

Tim I have a new TT226R-4C. #4C is is for engines which have a spark every two revolutions of the crankshaft. If you can use it I'll sell it for $30+ shipping or $35 with free shipping.

Either check their website or give them a call.

thanks Chuck,I sent them an E-mail to see what model I need. I may have to get a custom lenght.as I think it is more then 6 feet from my panel to the engine.

I have also thought about going for broke and buying another Red lion tack and letting it read off the fly wheel.

Mine was longer than 6' also. I just soldered another wire onto it to extend it then wrapped that wire around the plug wire. Been working great for the last 6 years. This is on a 2-stroke engine.

Animal,
If Brandon's is the right type you can purchase it from him and send it back to the factory to have them extend the lead. I had to send mine back for a longer lead and it was no big deal.

Stu just got us a 3081R Tny Tach, says wires too short. Guess we might try to solder an extension on given Chuck's experience.

Hope that it is right model for the 503.

I just checked the Tiny Tach web site. On their questions page they say you can not lengthen the lead yourself you have to have them do it.

It worked OK for me. But I don't want to give you the wrong information.

Thanks for that Chuck,

Looks as though you might have got away with that one although just how one checks the accuracy of the results you are getting might be difficult.

Resasi : If you order one you might ask the get the leads made longer. I am going to have to send mine back to Tiny Tach to get this done. I want to mount it on my pod next to my ASI so I can get a look at it each time i look down. I now know what it feels like to be in the front seat flying.......:first:

It's not difficult at all. I have a 2-place gyro.

The regular engine tach is an analog type. I have the Tiny Tach located in the rear seat so I can monitor the engine RPM when I have a student in the front.

When I sit in the rear seat where the instrument pod is located I can not see the analog engine tach.

Far as I can tell they both read the same when I check them on the ground.
