Anyone notice the change to the Sportcopter webpage? The Cabin Construction is real interesting.
"Due to the amount of interest we have had with military and law enforcement we are now equipping our SCII with …The Lycoming I0-360, which outperforms our original Subaru choice. Production is now underway for both Fully-Finished machines and Kits!"

Have I missed it or is there no mention of the flight characteristics like Vcruise, Vne, max-G etc.?

The website is still under construction Kai.

wow, just looked at the website, very impressive machine.
what kind of prerotatior is that?
also I don't see the normal control rods, looks like just one in the back and 1 on the side. am I seeing that right?
I also like the triple rudders,I have always thought that was a good Idea
would love to see more detailed pics of this machine.

Tim,
We are using special push-pull cables. We used tubes on the white machine, but we may convert it.
The pre-rotator is hydraulic, but the white machine is flex shaft.
There are better pics in the gallery. If you want something specific, I can probably post it for you. Just let me know what you want to see.

yeah Anthony said is was using telflex type cables, but in the photos you can't tell how they attache to the head. if I see right has the sportcopter cleaned up the drag around the head by having 1 cable on the side and 1 at the rear?
I have always kind of wondered why most gyros have always used the system like Bensens with 2 rods acting like a mixer.and not like a Helicopter with a single rod on the side and 1 on the front or rear for pitch.
The pics of the Pre-rotator looks like it has a series of chains driving it.
what kind of RPM is that getting?
very nice webite.just checked it out and that is one heck of a sweet machine.
hope to see it in person someday and maybe get a flight in it.
all of the Vanek designs have always been very impressive.
btw what happened with the Taper Rotors you made awhile back? how have they been doing in tests? I can't help but wonder how some tapered blades would do on a helicopter like a Safari or Rotorway.
Any new youtube video of the SCII yet?
P.S. more photos on the face book page would be great, yep I checked it out also.
keep up the good work, US gyro company's need to compete with these over seas company's.

Yes about the cables.
I'm not sure what max is on the prerotator, but I know we can get 200 rrpm easy (I've done it)
I've shelved the tapered rotors for now. I'm more interested in my "Transfoil" project. The idea is too change the airfoil along the length of the blade to achieve the least amount of drag with the most lift (as close as I can get anyway). I've spent alot of time with my airfoil programs to get it right.
No new videos until the white machine gets upgraded. We're changing the cowls again and adding a fan.
I'll work on the pictures. I'm too busy with kits right now though.
Thanks Tim.

Jon wow that is pretty good RPM's I bet that baby jumps off the ground. do these machines have the Lycomings or Subaru's in them?
would like to hear more about the new blades, I always enjoy learning about new airfoil designs and blade designs.
the sport copter blades and hub bar is the most impressive Gyro rotor system I had ever seen on a Gyro. first time I saw a set was on a Gyro at ROC in Aiken and I was blow away with the elastomeric bushings in the hub to blade mounts.
I bet is has to be a thrill to design a Rotor blade, then make it and fly it.
when I think back,to it was not that many years ago that most blade where wood and now what we have, it kind of blows the mind.
I mean look at how the first gyroplane blades where made like a small airplane wing with ribs and spars and fabric covering or even the early wooden Bensen blades, to what we have now.
keep up the good work and keep us posted.
Looks nice but the use of teleflex cables in any mission critical application would be a deal breaker for me.

Tim,
It's a real pleasure to have the luxury of design. I am fortunate. The gyro community has come a long way. I have learned alot from them.
The machines: The red one has a Suburu 2.5 and the white one has a Lycoming. We prefer the Lycoming. It has more power and is lighter. The costs were relative.
The LSA is going to be awesome....and affordable.

cool for sure keep us posted, would love to see more of the lycoming bird, any pics you can post of it would be great.
I am a firm believer of Lycoming and Cont. powered Gyros and helicopters.
with the hawk 4 proving that Turbines can be used in Gyros,I wonder how long it will be, before we see a Turbine powered sport gyro.

Testing continues on the SC II with the Lycoming IO-360.

I know you guys have a preference for the lycoming engine but it sounds obnoxious to my ears but thats just me...I like the sound of a 4 blade warp drive on a subaru power plant.
I will take either one though......
Design looks great.
How much for a stripped kit. ?

I like the way she sounds, kind of mellow yet powerful.
She looks fast in the video.
How fast does she go straight and level at sea level?
That seems like a very reasonable price.
How much for one of those engines?
How much horsepower?
What propeller is that?
How big is the disk?
Chord on the blades?
How much does she weigh?
I am not a viable customer but people ask me about such things and I try to sound less ignorant than I am.
Thank you, Vance

Vance,
Thank you.
We haven't peaked her out yet, but I think she's doing about 115 Knots in the video. We also have some streamlining still being tooled so she may go faster.
The Lycon engine is 32K.
The Lycon is dyno tested to 225 HP.
The propeller is an MT designed for this application.
The disk is 31'
The chord is 9"
Empty weight I believe (not sure) is 1100lbs. Gross 1700lbs (again, not sure 100%)
We've seen 1000ft/min on climb. May be better or worse depending on the day.

Thank you Jon,
Wow, 115kts AKA 132miles per hour is booking right along in a gyroplane.
That is some serious climb too, particularly for the weight.
I suspect your drag is a little lower than what we hope Mariah Gale has.
Impresive for a side by side.
It sounds like you have my rotor system.
You gentlemen are an inspiration to me.
Thank you for sharing, great job!
Thank you, Vance

Funny how that works Jonathon .... I am the opposite ..... I like the raw sound of a Lycoming at 2800 rpm .
Even in Animal's helicopter , I like the sound of the engine. I play the video three times to watch it hover , and another three times just to listen.
Anyway ... I guess it is a matter of taste or something.
Which just goes to show that rotary wing pilots can taste with their eardrums :):):) talk about rare talents.
Best regards.
