I just went throught his with a GP500, I did locate a guy down in Florida who has parts, He is hard to get ahold of, works long hours etc. But I bought the sprag clutch from a tranny supply shop over the net. The sprag is out of a 1954-63 GM Jetaway automatic tranny, I think I may have the part# at home.
I don't know if the GP500 and 1000 gearboxes are the same or not, But my engine died, Send me an E-mail and I'll see if I can help, I've been there!

Joe, I think those engines were used on Air Command tandems for a while.
