:) Look pretty good. I'll need to pick up some light machine oil (3-in-1) like someone here recommended before I can start drilling the holes, but its good to actually have some actual airframe components in my grubby little paws!!! I've spent the last 3-4 days getting my bench/drill press perfectly level, and practicing my measuring and marking skills. I'll give it a shot tomorrow afternoon and let you all know how it went!!! Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Just remember: measure twice, cut once! or drill once.

DOH! I cut it again, and it's STILL too short!

Congrats, and happy building :)

Twice? I measure 3 or 4 times!!! I got the deburr hand tool from AircraftTools.com too. Somebody pinch me, am I dreaming?

Ahhh... to be you right now. You were out in your shop when I called you the other day. How goes that? Glad you got your materials and they look good. I've never ordered from Wicks before, but this gives me great confidence. I was anticipating placing my Bee materials order with them yesterday or today upon the arrival of a check we were supposed to have from a client 2 months ago... "check's in the mail"... yeah right. So I continue to wait patiently... Anyone ever seen the movie The Shining?

The mast tube just showed up and now I have kind of a problem, math wise. How does .3125 come out as a fraction? Thats one of the measurement from where some holes are from the side. Yikes!!! Well, gotta go to work.... Later!!!

KDOG,

Those are 3/16" (.1875") holes, correctly placed 1/32" (.03125") from the inside surface of your 3/16" wall mast.

Here's a diagram.

Yeah, I figured it out at work. LOL!!! Man, you can tell my math skills are rusty!!! I figured out that 1/32 of an inch is .03125 and just by looking at that number you can tell that the dimension is simply 10 times that, or .3125, and of course, 10/32 is the same as 5/16. My gripe is, why not just say 5/16?

LOL!!! Ok, ok I get it. Don't mind me, just a result of another 12 hr shift and 4 hrs of sleep...

No problem. Complaining about Gyrobee stuff is like complaining to the government - makes you feel good and you don't have to worry that anything will happen!

Man, its only 1/32 away from the inside wall? Thats really close.

Yes it is, I just got through drilling all the holes in my new bensen rebuild project. Everything went together like butter. One thing I found out that works REALLY well, is using a #3 center drill. It has about a 3/32 pilot point on it, with a 1/4 shank they won't skate, plus as it steps up to 1/4" it drills a ROUND hole! Most standard twist drills drill a triangular shaped hole. Sometimes close tollerance bolts will not quite fit in a hole drilled from a regular bit unless it has been reamed.

I just noticed how much nicer things are going together this time as compared with the first time I built the gyro.
