I have a carbureted EJ22 on my RAF2000. I removed the intake to inspect the carb mounting plate for cracks & also had some extra welding done to the outside of the plate for strength as instructed by RAF.

When I replace the intake I had trouble lining up the bolt holes. After getting it installed I had trouble with air leaks at the head gaskets. I used plenty of high-temp silicone sealant to stop the leaks. It seems that over time my intake warped. I'm sure that the welder didn't overheat the intake to cause this.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so what did you do?

It would be the welding Rudy.

Rudy,
Definately the welding if you werent having these problems before, i've done welding many exhaust manifolds over the years and if its done properly the warping will be minimumal otherwise the heat just pulls them out of shape something shocking..
You may have to take it and get it faced off to get the surface flat again and drill the bolt holes out to oversize..

Thanks Paul & Mark,
I'll wait until winter to pull the intake off again. My brother will machine the intake flanges some to straighten them out. Hopefully we won't have to remove too much metal. Another person suggested that I make a pair of intake gaskets with some thick material. Hopefully this will work out.
